Out here in my neck of the woods in North Florida the small town of Windsor holds its annual Zucchini Festival at this time of year. I enjoyed the day yesterday helping to man one of the many booths as large crowds enjoyed the warm afternoon, the small town atmosphere, and the many exhibits and delicious food while several band entertained them.
During a lull between visitors to the booth I noticed a pretty little girl of about seven passing out flyers to walkers-by. She had blond hair, blue eyes and a very determined look on her face. Sadly, many waved her off, others took the handout and immediately balled it up for the trash and over time you could see her wilting with disappointment.
Some time later, she approached me at the booth and shyly offered one of the flyers. I took it from her, looked at the cover, and began to smile. It read, "Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior?" It contained a follow-on narrative of Biblical scripture and information about the benefits of a life for Christ. After a moment, I put the folded document in my shirt pocket and looked down at the little girl who I'm sure wondered what I would say.
I simply smiled, patted her on the head and said "Yes, I have accepted Him." She broke out in a big grin and skipped away from the table. I think I saw a young woman who was standing a small distance away smile as well and I assume that was her mother. I hope that little girl had many more Yes responses over the rest of the afternoon.
I don't know who she is or who her parents are but if I did I would congratulate them for what they are instilling in the heart of this precious child. We are all expected to serve as missionaries for Him in all that we do and this little girl is learning what the meaning of loving Jesus is. How wonderful.
May God continue to shine His guiding light on her and may she develop into a strong Christian woman with love in her heart always. If she does, He will delight in it and she will forever live for and with Him.
