Well, if we had a real Conservative as Speaker, that would be the end of it. The bill would die a quiet death and we wouldn't see it again, at least not during this session of Congress. But, and it's a huge but, the Speaker, John Boehner, once again is likely to side with Democrats in the House over his Republican majority and pass a similar bill which, after minor tweaking by the two chambers to make them compatible, will become law.
Speaker Boehner has on multiple times violated the "Hastert Rule", named for former Speaker Denny Hastert, which basically says that the Speaker won't put legislation on the floor without a majority of the majority supporting it. Seems logical, except for one problem. The current Speaker is no Conservative. He is at best a moderate (whatever that really means) or, at worse, a closet liberal. Come to think of it, that's probably what most moderates are, unless they truly stand for nothing which is what the term signifies to me.
Enter three brave Republican Conservatives, Representatives Michelle Bachmann (MN), Steve King IA), and Louie Gohmert (TX). These three have spoken up and done so loudly, and they are directly challenging the Speaker in a way that seldom happens. They have put together a group of seventy Patriots in the House calling for a special caucus meeting of the House Republicans, and they've put Boehner on the hot seat.
Oh, I know it's risky to challenge a sitting Speaker. After all, he is the guy who offers special favors and perks and can make your life miserable if you're in his caucus and don't support him. But these three have decided they've had enough, and apparently they have many who agree, so they are taking the fight right to the "horses mouth".
I want to congratulate them for their courage and integrity and, most of all, for putting the American citizen first. This Senate immigration bill is a disaster. It will not close the borders, is unaffordable, and will result in a change in America that will soon make the land we love unrecognizable. And I have to ask, does anyone think that supporting one of Barack Obama's pet projects is a good idea? That's what this is.
So, thank you Representatives Bachmann, King and Gohmert, for your willingness to put yourselves on the line in defense of your country. I know they've tried to make your life miserable in Congress, but we Conservatives out here in flyover country support you and pray for you and your success. God bless.
