When Stephanopoulis made the jump to the mainstream media with ABC, it was expected that he would be more of a partisan analyst/pundit type, putting a liberal spin on all things. And that's expected in that position; it is used for point-counterpoint discussions, or at least it was when they media tried to at least hide its bias.
When Georgie was repackaged as a non-biased newsman I was truly amazed. And he rapidly developed back into his old self, serving as a one man hit squad for all things liberal but principally on behalf of Bill and Hillary. It came to a head just recently when he held his interview of Peter Schweizer, author of Clinton Cash. Old George threw out all semblance of openness and fairness and pulled "hatchet job", a journalist who had done a job of research on his subject that even made the New York Times exclaim that he had resourced the subject in great detail.
Now I knew from day one that Stephanopoulis was always a biased hack completely unfit to cover the national news, but he had sold himself as a nice guy with a big smile and low information voters were positively snowed. But things do have a way of coming around and boy did they. When the news broke that George had given a seventy five thousand dollar donation to the Clinton Foundation, with notice just coming out after the hit job on Schweizer, nobody could miss the irony. Mr. Evening News was just outed as a highly biased and unprincipled Clinton commando posing as the face of ABC.
So what if anything will happen. Well, thus far ABC has pulled in the wagons in a tight perimeter in defense of Stephanopoulis and he, in turn, issued a half-hearted apology. I'm sure if this had been an action by a conservative, he would already by looking for work but for liberal Georgie, maybe not.
But there is one thing about which I am certain. ABC has now joined the ranks of NBC as a non-viable purveyor of truthful news and opinion and CBS, after the Sharyll Atkisson fiasco, can't be held in very high esteem either. The entire TV news media needs to stop, look at itself and realize that it now has sunk to the bottom of a sewer taht it has created for itself. And as for me, well, I turned off the TV nearly a year ago. The internet and radio offer plenty of sources from all points of view from which to determine the truth for myself. That, however, might become tenuous itself with the proposals of the Obama Administration to stop its free and open access.
Somehow we've got to figure out a way to keep freedom alive in all forms of media, for without free speech our entire way of life will be frittered away by creeping tyranny. God help America as we weather the storm. And Georgie, why don't you open your heart to the One who can get you on track? He's always there waiting, you know.
