One of three likely tracks will unfold, all of which involve Florida. If the westward moving Bermuda high continues building, the storm could skirt the west coast and ultimately slam into the state in the Big Bend or Panhandle as she moves north. Should the moving high move less solidly westward, the storm could come ashore and rake the state from Key West to the Georgia line, a pummeling right up the spine of the Sunshine State. A lesser expansive Bermuda high would result in an east coast hit with significant beach damage but something that is common in Florida.
The center most track would be the most damaging since no point in the peninsula is more than sixty miles from open waters. A track up the spine would cause major damage from Key West and Miami all the way up to Jacksonville and points as far west as the Big Bend. And since Florida is both flat and very wet, the fury would not abate nearly as fast since the warm water would still be incoming from the circular motion and the low terrain would not break up winds quickly. In short, a disaster many of us have never seen could take place and following Harvey, resources for assistance, many of which are already stretched, would require monumental effort to gather.
Now I surely don't want to panic anyone with my comments, after all, I am a resident of the central part of Florida which could soon be under intense stress. But I think it's important for all of us to do our own preparing and get as ready as is humanly possible. Make sure you have plenty of water, non-perishable foods, tarps, batteries, a good weather radio and keep your vehicles filled. Don't forget the pets, either, since you might need more food for them in the event stores are closed for a while. And be prepared to potentially live without electricity for a significant period of time. It's a problem but it is survivable if proper advance planning is taken.
I'll keep writing my blog this week until the power goes out. Hopefully, the storm will relent and things won't be so bad. But nature works in mysterious ways and we don't know why God does what he does sometimes. We are, however, expected to accept His will and use our best self-help talents to take care of our own.
Everyone be safe, be secure and do what you must to weather whatever God brings us. Sometimes a rough spot is a way to make us truly appreciate the gifts that we have and take for granted. God bless you all.
