It just came out recently that the Speaker has once again punished some of the Conservatives in his caucus for refusing to be loyal to him on the issue of Obamatrade. This isn't the first time he has done this and he has also violated the traditional Hastert Rule where the Speaker doesn't bring up legislation unless he has a majority of Republicans in support.
So let's get this straight. Boehner thinks his Republican caucus should violate their pledges to their voters back home to back him? And he also uses liberal Democrats of the Nancy Pelosi caucus to get legislation passed because a large number of his own caucus members won't support him? I don't know about you, folks, but in my mind this is tyranny and the man should be stripped of the privilege of serving as Speaker because it is he, not the Conservatives, who is disloyal.
And last night the word came out that Boehner had met with the minority members who would support Obamatrade, asking their help in getting as many Democrats as they could to go along with the bill. The transition authority would be pulled away from the rest of the bill and not be considered at this time, but he pledged to them that they would get a vote on it and it would pass. It appears that a vote on the first phase of the sellout of the American worker could come as early as today.
So Boehner has sold out members of his own caucus, the die hard Conservatives who represent districts that were responsible for giving Boehner his position and is instead working closely with the President and the minority Democrats to get what he wants. Or should I really say to get what the Chamber of Commerce and the big crony capitalists want because that is what this is all about.
Boehner is a complete disgrace, a man with no core and no concern for the base of his party, the good men and women of moderate means who brought the Republicans to power in the House, a power they have used against them. And it brings up one last point worthy of mention. If the trade deal is so good for all Americans as the shameless Paul Ryan says, why do American workers need transition assistance? And the answer is because the average worker stands to lose everything while the fat cats just improve their profits with cheap labor.
I think this might be the death knell for the Republican Party but, then again, maybe a spark will be lit to take it back. Maybe that's why Donald Trump is getting good reviews from the "little people" while the pundits and the haughty Washington Establishment laugh at and make fun of "The Donald". We really don't know what his entry into the Presidential sweepstakes means but it might in the end make the joke on Boehner and the others of his ilk who have betrayed us. I think Trump with unlimited financial resources and his willingness to throw political correctness out the window might just turn out be a formidable force but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Keep your eyes open, folks, and if it seems as if none of this makes sense for true Republican, your gut reaction is probably right. Make calls today and let your representatives know how you feel. It is your right and duty and then, if they do pass this monstrosity, never let them off the hook. Work to primary every member of Congress who did the bidding of the powerful for, in the final analysis, there are many more of us than them and our numbers equate to much power to change. Use it, but use it wisely.
