I am referring to the President's expressed wish to take military action against Syria and supporting rebels who are known to be sworn enemies of the United States. Furthermore, he is proposing direct involvement of America in a civil war, an action which clearly doesn't support the concept of "direct and immediate danger" to America.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg; it gets much worse. He says he wants to punish the Syrian government for use of chemical weapons against its own people, yet there are conflicting reports as to which side, the rebels or the government, were actually using the weapons. And his Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Martin Dempsey, in testimony before Congress this past week couldn't even say what it is we hope to accomplish.
So President Barack Obama, the man who said he would regain the respect and love for America around the world has instead turned things upside down. Our best ally, Britain, has decided not to participate and the G20 meeting refused to give support for military action. The Russians have sent warships to the region and have stated they will actively support Syria if we do what we say we will, Pope Francis has spoken out strongly against Obama's plan and now Obama himself has deferred action until completion of a vote by Congress which, in all likelihood, he will lose. Will he take action anyway after the vote? No one is willing to bet on that one. Not a good track record on the military front for the man who said he would end war.
The man who said he would end the reckless behavior of George Bush is now about to enter us into a no win situation in the portion of the world that remains a powder keg. And after major adfvances in the area, he announced to the whole world our pull out schedules for both Iraq and Afghanistan. Our former allies in those lands are now sitting ducks, thanks to the feckless President. And, in addition to this, Africa is a cauldron.
This entire international crisis could have been avoided had Obama never drawn his red line in the sand concerning Assad's use of chemical weapons. And now, despite millions of Americans having heard him declare his position, he denies it. He claims that the red line was drawn by the world community or some such nonsense, making him look downright unstable.
And there is a last little tidbit that some of you might not know. Assad has a significant Christian component of his citizenry that he has good relations with. He allows them to live peacefully and practice their religion without reprisal. After seeing what happened with Mursi in Egypt, you can be sure that Obama's projected allies in Syria, cldearly tied to Al Quada, would certainly not do the same should the be successful.
I pray that Congress will actually vote NO on his proposal and that the American public keeps the heat on until this issue is completely dead. We can't afford any more wars, we can't risk our military by sending them in harm's way on the side of a terrorist group, and we need to support our Christian brothers and sisters wherever they might be. No matter what you say, Mr. President, America is still a predominantly Christian nation.
Stop the madness. Get some new advisors that understand how the world works and don't use it as a college theory laboratory. God help us.
