Realistically, SOTU has become nothing but a "goody" list designed to continue to grow the percentage of citizens who rely on government for their very existence. And while this has been going on for some time, the current President has become the master of the trade, adding nearly $8 trillion to the deficit in his first six years in office.
So I guess you might have already figured out my own personal answer to the question in the title. No, I didn't watch the SOTU? What is the point? I mean, really, Obama has been talking about all of the things that he wants, none of which are realistic for a nation mired in debt. Furthermore, most of his proposals wouldn't be good under any circumstances. After all, the only thing that will happen if they were to become law would be increased taxes for most, not just the rich, and more and more people becoming dependent on the government for their very existence.
Obama wants a 7% total increase in budget authority. But it is much worse than that. Remember, the federal budgeting process is based on baseline budgeting, not zero based budgeting. So there is a built in inflation adjusted built into what they often report as a budget with no increases. A 7% increase means significantly more than that and ask yourself, did you start the year with income that is 7% higher than your level last year. Actually, many of us have seen significant decreases or have seen jobs reduced in hours, an even bigger cut. And many more are working multiple jobs of a part-time variety just to put food on the table.
Another feature that Obama likes to tout is "free college". What he is talking about, however, is community college for up to two years for some while many others are working their way through school or amassing loans without assistance. Why in the world would a government want to offer something advertised as "free college" when we all know that nothing is free. Someone has to pay for it and if it is Obama's so-called "rich", many of modest income will be paying for someone else. The truly wealthy can always find tax loopholes, including Obama and his supposed heir apparent Hillary who uses every loophole in the book for the Clinton fortune. And besides, two years of community college leaves you two years short of a baccalaureate and most who enroll in community college never complete the two year course of study.
And speaking of "free college", if he is so concerned about parents being able to handle the cost of college, why is he proposing taxes on college savings accounts that were arranged to be tax free. The man makes no sense except in one way, he wants all that you have and then he wants to decide what he'll let you have back. This is a scam, folks, a scam of disastrous proportions planned by a man who wants to control the life of everyone.
I could go on and on but I think you get my drift. Stop the madness, stop spending and reduce costs and taxes. Allow those who take risk to run a business with less regulation and not more, particularly the small businesses which offer most of the new jobs in America. The more money they get to keep, the more they will expand their business and the expansion requires hiring more employees. That is what we need to create jobs. Remember, government never creates anything, it just takes
.
So I'll look at a few articles about the address today and listen to some talk radio about it but I certainly didn't waste my time listening to the "Man with No Plan" tell us how to make America better when he has made it progressively worse for the last six.
God bless you, folks, and God bless America. We need His help desperately if we are to survive the storm against our democratic republic and the engine of American prosperity: capitalism. May America return to prosperity with a leader who understands the way to grow an economy.
