Being 65, I always take interest in the latest medical news and, particularly, in finding out "what's in the bill" now that Nancy and the gang "passed it". As expected, the news that comes out gets worse and worse. The cost factors are headed skyward and the level of care is being drastically curtailed. I hope all of you who are concerned are aware of how Medicare is starting to turn away cancer patients. And this will only get worse.
I am the son of a doctor, a man who, in a different age, made house calls at all hours and worked twelve to fourteen hour days routinely except for a rare vacation and Sundays. And even on Sundays, he would make rounds at the local hospital every Sunday evening. Not something you see these days.
Let me just share with you one small story involving me and my dad. Dad had a huge base of children as primary patients. He was an ear, nose, and throat specialist in Tidewater Virginia, an area noted for high humidity, rapidly changing weather, and major pollen issues in the spring. Hence, he was in big demand because he had a very special way with children. He even would play Santa for children hospitalized around Christmastime.
Now to get to the heart of the story, every evening after supper before heading to the hospital, he would call ahead to find out which of his young patients were having issues in planning his rounds. And he would always ask, when the phone was answered, "Pediatrics, please." One day I got up my nerve and asked him , "Dad, who is Petey Atricks?" Dad, just laughed, patted me on the head and said, "Oh, he's a bunch of children, son, a bunch of children."
That's something I've always remembered. s
Enough for today, friends. God bless you all and take care and be safe. Always remember to ask Him to provide help and guidance with all of your problems. He's just waiting for you to ask.
