Sadly, in so many ways we Americans today have forgotten about the sacrifice and the courage displayed by those fearless souls who gave their all so that they, and those who came after them in this great land, could live freely in an independent state. They knew what they faced, willingly accepted it, and with the divine guidance of Almighty God succeeded where no one thought it would be possible.
On this week's Sunday Morning Coming Down we will talk about their trials and tribulations and some of what happened later after their success was assured. And only eighty six years later at this same time of year the Battle of Gettysburg, a fight between father and son and brother and brother over differences that surfaced in the new land began the turning of the tide in the Civil War. The Union survived that also difficult time and with her victory became even stronger and more confident in her being.
God played a major part in these happenings as He always does. No, He doesn't fight the battles but the development of the right leaders at the right time, people created in the image of God who have tried to live up to God's requirements of us, have always served America well. Leaders like Washington and Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, the Roosevelts (both Republican and Democrat), Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and more, each in their own way exhibited a commitment to the land, while not always understood, which offered hope for a bright future which America indeed lived up to. As long as we have kept our hearts open to God for guidance and inspiration we have shown the way for the world as a shining light. But in times when we turn our back on him, He surely leaves us to our own devices which are woefully inadequate for what must be done.
Today, many have lost sight of the importance of God, including many leaders and citizens and we must look to our history if we want to avoid the pitfalls of our past. When we place diversity as a primary goal without the concept of assimilation into a people wanting to truly be American, we falter, and our values, beliefs and desire to be a united body in Spirit suffer dramatically. We will look at these issue on this week's episode in light of what we find in God's Holy Word. We will have a message, scripture, prayer and music of a patriotic and religious variety. Hope you'll join us; the show goes live at 8 am Sunday and then will be on demand. Here's the link:
