Let's Take Down Another RINO Next Tuesday

6/22/2014

Next Tuesday is a very important day in Mississippi.  Magnolia State voters have the opportunity to retire another RINO who is way past the time when he should have been retired.  An energetic young Conservative, Chris McDaniel, has an excellent chance to strike another blow for individualism and freedom.

McDaniel edged out Thad Cochran, a thirty-six year Washington career politician, in the primary but didn't quite achieve the 50%+ needed to avoid the runoff.  The latest polls show that McDaniel has about an eight point lead, but the "dirty tricks" brigade is getting into gear from the RINO Establishment and Mississippi voters need to pay attention and not listen to the "phony baloney" that is sure to be covering the airwaves in the next few days.

Former Republican Chairman, also a former Mississippi Governor, Haley Barbour, is leading the charge to try to get Cochran over the top by hook or by crook.  I'm sorry to have to say that because I used to really admire Barbour, but power and money in politics has a tendency to ruin even the best men.  Cochran, who didn't even know that Eric Cantor lost his primary, doesn't seem to have a clue about what is going on but he has surrounded himself by a ruthless team.

Now Brett Favre has come out with an ad for Cochran, the Establishment thinking that his hero status in Ole Miss might save the day.  Unfortunately for them, many in Mississippi grew disgusted with Favre when his little photo ops that he sent out become public, plus he is, like Cochran, a man who doesn't know when it's time to retire.  It's also of interest that Barbour, late in his gubernatorial term, pardoned Brett's brother from his prior convictions, giving him a clean slate to perhaps own a weapon again.  You don't see much about this in the press.

There is even a rumor going around that Cochran has enlisted Democrats to help him, asking them to come out and vote for him in the runoff.  The state Democratic Party chairman denies this and spoke fervently about Democratic responsibility to keep hands off, but who knows what a desperate old Senator facing the end of his political heyday might try?

I urge voters in Mississippi to just keep their eyes on the issues and vote what is best for their state and their country.  Cochran was a huge appropriator, a pork barrel specialist, and he has gone along time and time again with the RINO clique in the Senate.  McDaniel on the other hand offers a fresh and young approach, more akin to the Ted Cruz tradition.  Anything that Mississippi can do to help break up the RINO and Establishment stranglehold while hopefully helping the Republicans to gain control of the Senate will be critical to turning this country around.

Vote early and vote your conscience, for if you do, you will be at the leading edge of putting Chris McDaniel in the Senate, determined to clean up the mess that has been made of it.  And as for Thad Cochran?  Well, Senator, we respect you as a man but isn't it time for you to go home and take care of your sick wife?  Take care of those who love you; Washington will do just fine without you.

Tea Party Loses in North Carolina

North Carolina held its Senate primary yesterday and the results were resounding.  And while I am generally a supporter of the most conservative Republican candidate in the field, the election was won by a moderate of the Mitt Romney variety.  After having watched the performance of Democrat Kay Hagan rather closely even though not a Carolinian myself (my sister is a long-time Carolina resident),  I know that any Republican will be a huge improvement as Senator.

Thom Tillis, the current Speaker of the House of Representatives in the North Carolina legislature handily surpassed the 40% vote total he needed to avoid a runoff.  Running in a large field of eight, he dispatched his two closest opponents, Dr. Greg Brannon and Rev. Mark Harris.  Brannon was a Rand Paul type Libertarian and Harris a traditional Conservative and the two split the Conservative vote sufficiently to allow Tillis the victory.

I have been talking in recent weeks about the Tea Party and how if they don't get their act better organized and coalesce around a single strong candidate then they won't be able to win in the primaries.  This election was a clear case example as the two of them, had they combined forces behind one, would have likely won the day.

My biggest objection to the Tillis nomination was not anything that I clearly know about him but, rather, about the outside support that came to his aid.  He was strongly endorsed by Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, and Jeb Bush, three Establishment Republicans who I feel represent the clear reason for Republicans losing big elections.  When you lose your conservatism, when you are unwilling to truly fight for those things that are best for all of America and keeping her sound, and when you negotiate with people who really aren't interested in negotiating but rather "jamming" through their agenda, then you really aren't a Republican in the traditional sense at all.  And after watching Obama successfully dismantle so much of what has made America great, I am very fearful that the National Republicans would rather compromise away what is best for the sake of a deal.

So to Speaker Tillis, hopefully soon Senator Tillis, I hope you will be true to the good people of North Carolina, not the Senate of the United States.  And while I know that you will certainly be a significant improvement over Kay Hagan, I hope you will do those things that will make life better for my sister and her family in North Carolina.  Individualism, freedom and God are what made America great and we need to return ourselves to what the Founders knew best by getting off the road to tyranny.  I hope you will truly stand and fight against Obamacare and all of the other putrid things that the Democrats have schemed to force on America and work hard to reduce the size of government, not increase its scope and power.  Remember, you are there to represent your people not to please Mitch McConnell and the Establishment which has been at the middle of allowing the destruction of our fair nation.

Congratulations on your victory, God bless you and good luck.
