Did You Hear and Feel The Spirit Yesterday?

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.  Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  --Acts 2:2-4 (NKJV)

Yesterday was Pentecost Sunday, the celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit sent to earth and Jesus' followers following His ascension to the side of His Father.  It was as He promised and the Apostles had been waiting as instructed in Jerusalem for its arrival.  Upon its delivery unto them it marked the real beginning of the Christian Church and the start of their intended mission to spread His word far and near in the world.

As I thought about it yesterday afternoon, I revisited the courage that they displayed through the pain and suffering that they withstood in order to meet God's requirements passed to them by Jesus during His time on earth.  All of the Apostles suffered horrific deaths with the exception of John, who lived in exile on the Isle of Patmos where he wrote the Gospel of John and The Revelation.  John's Gospel is the only one that portrayed things in a way for the understanding of both Greeks and Romans.  The others were writtten in the Hebrew tradition.

Thinking back on what these great men did for us in capturing on paper the story and the basis for our belief in Him, I also looked at what we have done in recent times and I found myself somewhat ashamed.  In many ways we Americans have become very soft and selfish.  We have allowed our freedoms to be taken for granted and, as a result, in many cases we are letting them slip away.  Much of this has to do with our taking God for granted.  While we know He exists, we often forget to do those little things daily which make Him so much powerful in our life: things like regular prayer, Bible reading and, of course, worship.

He gives us the flexibility to do as we want through the gift of free will but this gift can also be a double edged sword, for even though the choice is ours to make, we know what choice we should be making and that is putting Him first in our lives always.  And when we do this, we will find that the Holy Spirit comes forth with great strength and guides us in everything we do.  But just like the fine tuned athlete or musician, if we don't practice what we need to do it can easily slip away.  The repetitive requirement of our relationship with Him is what keeps us strong.  That same strength is also important to us maintaining our freedom in this world.

Take a look at the scripture cited and think about its significance.  For if we truly open our hearts to Him and listen to what He tells us, we cannot go wrong and we will stay on the true path.  And just think about it: even if things go wrong in our day to day lives along the way we will be safe and secure knowing that He is waiting for us in all His Glory when our days on this earth are done.

Have a wonderful day and week and remember Him always.  God bless you all.

Michelle: Snitch on Your Parents

This past weekend Michelle Obama gave a speech at a Tulsa high school commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling which ended segregation of public schools in the United States.  It was certainly fitting for the First Lady to make a speech for such an occasion but the tone and tenor of her remarks were certainly not appropriate in a land which, at least today, is still free.

In her remarks she told the audience, students at the school, that they should monitor the speech of the older persons in the home and correct them.  The First Lady of the United States is telling our children that they need to what?  You heard it correctly, our children are being molded into members of the Thought Police.  And with the politically correct indoctrination as opposed to academics they are being bombarded with today in our public, strike that, government schools, you can be sure that the slant will be toward the government's way of thinking, not what should be expected in a free society.

If you look back in history, this is exactly what the Hitler Youth Corps was taught to do.  Oh, it started with merely discussing things with parents and
grandparents as an "education" process but, in the end, it ended with children working as trained young "Brownshirts" for the Nazis, often turning in their parents for reeducation or worse.  This is very dangerous stuff we're talking about it here, so it's important to pay attention to what your kids are learning and what they bring home and talk about.

Think I'm overreacting?  Well, with the NSA, the IRS, Benghazi, Fast and Furious scandals, and now even in the VA, actions contrary to the American way are coming to light in droves and yet the Administration tries to sweep them all under the rug, claiming no knowledge or worse, no problem, despite the obvious.  Jay Carney, Obama's version of Baghdad Bob, has become a master of doublespeak and falsehoods, and he does it without any concern or care. It is finally becoming clear to the even the least concerned among us that something is dreadfully wrong here.

Americans must pay attention and speak up.  It is also important that those of us who want our America back must vote for and elect those who share the values that made this country great.  It's going to take a lot of work but it's doable
.  But politics being the way it is, our elected officials must be brought to realize that this is not a government of the people anymore and it will not be accepted.  After all, tyranny once institutionalized has a way of maintaining its presence.  But it can be stopped and stop it we must.

We must stand for the Founding Principles as delineated in our Constitution or suffer the continued oppression and helplessness
that will surely be increasing. And we must do so with the guidance and help of Our Lord and Savior.  Let's get busy and bring America back.

Michelle Obama: The Grinch Who Stole School Lunch

5/20/2014

PictureIs that real chicken on that sandwich?
I remember growing up and hating to buy lunch at school.  I usually packed my lunch or even sometimes went home for lunch since I lived a mere block away.  Coming back in time for recess before the afternoon bell rang, I vividly remember my fellow students complaining about the daily offering.

In the intervening years between then and now, schools tried to make great strides to come up with something that kids would eat.  And a few items turned out well, so the wastage of food dropped significantly.  But now, thanks to the mighty hand of an ever more powerful government, the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 kicked in with ever more control and results that are abominable.  The current First Lady, Michelle Obama, interjected herself into the role of Food Czar and things have gone from bad to worse.

According to the new government Food Bible, Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the maximum caloric intake for high school kids in America today is 850 for lunch.  This means that a large strapping football player, expecting to complete his afternoon classes and then participate in heavy duty football drills for hours after school in supposed to be highly energetic on an 850 calorie and usually unappealing lunch.

Take a look at the picture with this article and you will see the typical high school lunch offering.  A supposed grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce on a bun accompanied by cooked carrots, fruit and lowfat milk.  Michelle, are you really kidding me?  Is this what we expect active and growing teenagers to eat to keep them going through the rest of the school day?

When I was a boy in high school and active in sports, I can remember coming home after school and eating a loaf of my mom's home made bread with butter and washing it down with a quart of ice cold milk, this after eating a full plate which, while never great, certainly was far superior to today's menu.  And after eating my "snack", the first statement out of my mouth was, "Mom, will dinner be ready soon?"

Active children need lots of food and lots of calories.  Unless they have some type of physical condition, they burn those calories nearly as quick as they take them in. So caloric intake really isn't a problem but lifestyle, well, that's a much different matter.

Go by the ball fields in your town after school or on the weekends and what do you find?  Sadly, except for the kids who are either self-motivated or have direct parental involvement, you find them empty.  They are home in the air conditioning looking all pasty and white while they exercise their thumbs on video games or surfing the net, previewing the Lord only knows what types of sites if parents aren't observant.

So for dear Michelle, no, the calories aren't the real problem, the problem is inactivity.  And because of the meddling in school lunch plans and administration, many schools are taking a big financial hit when kids refuse to eat the "slop" that is served or they just throw it away.

Thankfully, the House of Representatives has received many requests for exemption from the federal guidelines and a bill is being proposed to give Congress more oversight control.  The sad part is that it shouldn't be the White House or the Congress administering control over what kids eat; it should be the parents.

This is just one little issue exemplifying what we face when parents negate their responsibility and the government steps in to take control.  Really now, has the federal government ever taken charge of, and administered, a program that really worked well?  Excepting our military forces, I don't think so.

It's time for we parents and grandparents to get back in the game and take charge of our children and our destiny.  If not, the Food Police will entwine itself into anotherthe very aspect of our family that used to be quite enjoyable: the family meal.

God save the Republic and have a great day. It's ultimately all up to us and our choices.

Display Old Glory, It's Armed Forces Day

Picture
Today is Armed Forces Day, a day when America traditionally celebrated the American military for all that they do to protect us and keep us safe.  I use the term celebrated in the past tense since today most Americans don’t even recognize it on the calendar.  But in its heyday Armed Forces Day wasn’t a day limited to honor the dead or the wounded or even those who fought in wars for their country.  No, this was  a day designed to honor the composite force of men and women and the military institutions they represented in total as a salute to what this large body of Patriots meant to us and our safety from forces of evil throughout the world. And while the day is still designated, it has sadly been forgotten by so many of us.

In years gone by, Armed Forces Day was a really big deal.  Communities around the country held parades, usually on Saturday morning, and townspeople planning on shopping downtown timed their trips to first attend the parade and then shop.  Military units were invited to participate, local bands showed up dressed to the hilt and even the police and fire departments entered marching units in dress uniforms.  The reviewing stand for judging performance was decked out in red, white and blue bunting rivaling a Fourth of July parade and many in the crowd wore red, white and blue while sporting American flags.  Patriotic pride clearly filled the air.

I had the good fortune as a boy to personally participate in this wonderful parade of support for our military.  The first time, as a Cub Scout, I remember making sure my mom did a special pressing of my uniform as I wanted it to be perfect.  I stood tall and proud as our group, normally mischievous and active, stood at silent attention waiting to begin our march.  I think it was right then when I knew I wanted to be a soldier when I grew up.

Later, in the first year of high school before I became active in sports, I marched as a member of the marching band.  In our blue and gold uniforms with gleaming instruments, we all felt a chill go down our back as we stepped out on the avenue at the beginning of the parade route and saw the huge throngs of people watching our every step.  When we broke out into a John Philip Sousa march the crowd cheered and we played as well and as loud as we ever performed.  At the end of the long parade, we were hot and tired but happy and we felt extremely proud to be Americans and to have our military to keep us free.

Aside from some American Legion functions and events in heavily military family communities, little notice of it is made these days.  It probably won’t even be mentioned on the news, and it’s sad to note that since the anti-war movement became so outspoken during the Vietnam conflict, those who give dearly of themselves, even up to and including death for their American brothers and sisters, fail to be recognized on this occasion.  I’m afraid it’s just a sad sign of the times and as fewer and fewer young Americans experience the privilege of serving in uniform it becomes easy to forget the cause which many no longer fully understand or appreciate.

We’re going to have another chance soon to celebrate and honor our military, but this next opportunity is for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, dying for their country and their countrymen.  Memorial Day is right around the corner and while more people recognize than any other event related to the military, it is really sad that only after death do we as a nation seem to take real notice of all that our brave fighting men and women do.

So, on this Armed Forces Day I ask that each of you take a moment and say thanks to all of our fellow citizens for taking the time and sacrificing a portion of their lives so that we might remain free.  God bless them and God bless the United States of America. May Old Glory fly proudly and forever over a land that remains free.

The Sleeping Giant Awakens

5/3/2014

PictureNavy Seals ready for action
"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."  Attributed to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Admiral of the Imperial Japanese Navy, upon notification of the successful attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Despite common belief that this quote is accurate, there is no actual proof that Admiral Yamamoto actually made the statement.  It was known, however, that the Admiral was very skeptical of being successful in the ultimate war plan but, being a good Naval officer, he followed his orders.

I cite this quote since it is so appropriate today in light of the evidence that is finally starting to jell with regard to the White House and its shameful action, or lack thereof, in support of our besieged personnel in Benghazi on September 11th nearly two years ago.  I will wait to talk about the details and what I think of them until after the dust settles and the air clears, but I think it is clear that the Obama Administration is in dire trouble and it appears that finally all of the lies and the deception that has been used against the American people is, in the words of his friend the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, "coming home to roost".

Over the last five years America has been subject to a display of outright arrogance and lawbreaking by an Administration that will do anything to remain in power by silencing those who oppose it.  The list of things done that have been clearly wrong is long, including:  Fast and Furious, lack of law enforcement by the Justice Department, IRS abuse, trampling of state's rights as well as individual rights, destruction of the best medical system in the world and replacing it with a non-system which is both unworkable, unaffordable, and subject to the playing of favorites, wasted resources such as solar power schemes, refusal to approve the Keystone Pipeline, and the list goes on and on.

So while I am not ready to assume that this "so called smoking gun"
will result in action to end the disaster that is the current White House crony capitalist operation, I do think it will pressure something significant and I don't think that now that a Special Committee will be convened it can be swept under the rug.  In that regard, I think this is a great day for America and, as the Japanese Admiral is thought to have said so many years ago, I hope that the sleeping giant that is the resolve and the strength of the American people is finally awake.  I will also pray for the day to come when Americans will once again be comfortable with their own government and the strife and divisiveness that we see today is ended.  May God help us reach that day.

Republicans 2016: Golden Opportunity or Disaster?

5/2/2014

Picture
Looking at the future, it would seem that the Republican Party should have a bright future.  Everything right now is going wrong with the Obama Administration.  Obamacare has turned out to be an even bigger disaster than most of us had already predicted, Benghazi has reared its ugly head with information clearly showing the President was just playing politics with the cover up of this sad event, and many other scandals are mounting due to the non-response and silence of the Administration to the truth.  As Americans have learned what Obama meant by "The Fundamental Change of America" they don't like what they see.

So does this all mean that the Presidential election of 2016 will be a "gimme" for the Republicans?  No, sadly, it does not.  Much will depend on what happens in this year's off year elections, particularly with regard to the Senate and then we'll have to see what the "loyal opposition" does with the results.

Of particular importance is the activity of the House of Representatives from now until after the 2016 elections.  Will John Boehner and his team finally see the light and start standing up for the principles and values of the party's base voters or will he continue to blindly follow the wishes of K Street, Wall Street and even, to a surprising degree, the wishes of the President?

When the Tea Party and other Conservatives swept the Republicans to control of the House in 2010 most of us expected a fire in the belly and some fight.  But Boehner, truly not a real  Conservative, decided instead to go along and get along with the President and, as a result, has accomplished nothing.  Obamacare is still in place, the disaster at Benghazi is still being covered up, the national debt is soaring further out of control and if those things aren't enough, Boehner has signaled that it will be full speed ahead for Amnesty, the only thing other than Obamacare that will truly finish off America.  Additionally, he shuns those who afforded him the opportunity to hold the Speakership, surrounded himself with milquetoast yes men and women, and makes a bit of a fool of himself in public with his crying and inability to articulate a message.

Boehner has tied himself to the hip with the Rove and McConnell strategy of trying to destroy the Tea Party and those who generally support it.  He is clearly a status quo power hungry guy who puts himself first, just like Mitch McConnell.  And as for Karl Rove, well, he has made millions through his campaign apparatus despite a track record that is not too stellar.  After all, two moderate nominees for President with two losses in a row and they are now pushing hard for another one along the lines of a Jeb Bush in 2016.  I voted for Jeb Bush twice for Governor of Florida but Jeb Bush is no longer the same principled Conservative; he is now clearly in the camp of Progressivism with his no holds barred support of Amnesty and Common Core, the final step in federal takeover of our schools.

So what are Conservatives to do and how do we send them a message that they can't miss?  Well, for starters it's quite simple.  Vote in the Republican primaries and vote for the Conservative.  Clear the dead wood of too many years in Washington from office and replace it with true Conservatives, men and women who want to return the power of government to you rather than hang on to it themselves.  Rove and the boys will be spending lots of money trying to convince you that the Establishment candidates, mostly incumbents, are really Conservative and effective.  Don't believe them, look at their track records and look at the country today and it will be obvious to you that this is a falsehood.

Other things you can do in the short term is to demand an end to the push for Amnesty, reject Common Core for your kids, and keep the pressure on about defunding or terminating Obamacare and ending the scourge of scandals such as IRSgate, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the NSA, and more.  Blitz the Congressional offices demanding that they do their job and not cede any more power to a President who wants to control us all.  Constant pressure from large numbers of people is the only thing that gets the attention of Congress.

Finally, stop giving money directly to the Republican Party or any party for that matter.  Tell them you will not do so since they don't support your views.  Why would you want to give money to an organization which has been such a failure in living up to its promises?  Instead, give money directly to those candidates that you have evaluated carefully and trust.  Be skeptical of all incumbents and demand that they prove why you should support them.  There are some that are good but many are not.  Use the old Reagan strategy of trust but verify.

This isn't easy, folks, and it takes time and effort, but isn't it worth it to make sure that the people you support and vote for share your principles and ideals?  That's what it is all about and the lack of it is what has gotten America into so much trouble.

We can do this but it is a long road.  Let's all get to work for Freedom and together, we can bring it back home.

Is The New Domestic Military Force Already Established?

4/25/2014

Picture
Do you remember some of Obama's wannabe statements when he was running for his first term?  Think back and you might remember two that at the time slipped by most people.  The first was near the end of the campaign when he stated, "We are only five days away from fundamentally changing the United States of America".  The second statement involved the need for a domestic military force with all of the weapons and manpower of the Army to keep internal America safe.  Safe from whom and what?

While no one really questioned his statements at the time, today more and more are questioning his actions as his grandiose schemes and plans to fundamentally change the country are taking place.  Most Americans seem shocked and in disbelief, yet day by day we see Obama obliterating the rule of law and the Constitution in favor of a more centralized, more one man rule type of government.  Few, if any, in Washington seem very concerned about it; they talk about it but there is very little action.

His second statement, the one about a domestic military organization, clearly is being drawn up as well and it is in the militarization of elements of many federal agencies and the donation of military style vehicles and weapons to many non-federal police agencies.  Give the locals the "goodies" and they will be on the hook for your edicts and commands.  Everywhere you turn today there are police units in SWAT uniforms, and the more that are created the more they are likely to commit mischief.

Examples are growing nationwide of raids on homes and businesses with SWAT teams trashing property and in numerous cases innocent people being hurt or even killed.  Some are helpless elderly and in one noted case in Washington, D.C., a mother with her infant in the car was killed in a hail of gunfire after she had stopped her car and sat helpless inside with no weapon in her possession.  This one still needs more investigation although the authorities are doing everything in their power to hush up any talk.

In the past, events like these sparked outrage, yet today they are happening with such frequency that they barely generate a yawn.  As more and more innocents are involved and as the degree of use increases, however, the public is beginning to take notice and they don't like what they see.  The recent Bundy Ranch standoff where the BLM, a land management body, surrounded a rancher with two hundred heavily armed officers supported by helicopters, may be just the thing that has tipped the scales toward common sense.  A legal action that could have been handled with a simple property lien nearly turned into a modern day OK Corral.  Who is calling the shots on this type of behavior and why?

Pay attention, folks, for now that over twenty five agencies have independent SWAT-style units, even agencies with monikers like the IRS, Federal Reserve, Post Office, Agriculture Department, and NOAA becoming more and more like the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (anyone remember Fast and Furious?), there is much to be concerned with.  And with heavily loaded local police tending to shoot first and ask questions later, more and more accidents are likely to happen with no consequence.

America was never designed to operate like this.  This is one of the reasons why the founders decided to break away from British control, because it turns out to be nothing less than unmitigated tyranny.  It is also a good reason why you should never allow anyone to take your legally held guns, for once you no longer have the means of defending yourself and your family you are at the mercy of the heavily armed.  Keep your eyes open, speak up and demand that the New Federal Civilian Army concept be disbanded before you, too, become a victim of its overreach.

God bless America and may she still be saved.
