Thom Tillis, the current Speaker of the House of Representatives in the North Carolina legislature handily surpassed the 40% vote total he needed to avoid a runoff. Running in a large field of eight, he dispatched his two closest opponents, Dr. Greg Brannon and Rev. Mark Harris. Brannon was a Rand Paul type Libertarian and Harris a traditional Conservative and the two split the Conservative vote sufficiently to allow Tillis the victory.
I have been talking in recent weeks about the Tea Party and how if they don't get their act better organized and coalesce around a single strong candidate then they won't be able to win in the primaries. This election was a clear case example as the two of them, had they combined forces behind one, would have likely won the day.
My biggest objection to the Tillis nomination was not anything that I clearly know about him but, rather, about the outside support that came to his aid. He was strongly endorsed by Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, and Jeb Bush, three Establishment Republicans who I feel represent the clear reason for Republicans losing big elections. When you lose your conservatism, when you are unwilling to truly fight for those things that are best for all of America and keeping her sound, and when you negotiate with people who really aren't interested in negotiating but rather "jamming" through their agenda, then you really aren't a Republican in the traditional sense at all. And after watching Obama successfully dismantle so much of what has made America great, I am very fearful that the National Republicans would rather compromise away what is best for the sake of a deal.
So to Speaker Tillis, hopefully soon Senator Tillis, I hope you will be true to the good people of North Carolina, not the Senate of the United States. And while I know that you will certainly be a significant improvement over Kay Hagan, I hope you will do those things that will make life better for my sister and her family in North Carolina. Individualism, freedom and God are what made America great and we need to return ourselves to what the Founders knew best by getting off the road to tyranny. I hope you will truly stand and fight against Obamacare and all of the other putrid things that the Democrats have schemed to force on America and work hard to reduce the size of government, not increase its scope and power. Remember, you are there to represent your people not to please Mitch McConnell and the Establishment which has been at the middle of allowing the destruction of our fair nation.
Congratulations on your victory, God bless you and good luck.
