Sadly, finding a new home for the geese also became a necessity. Their nuisance activities were becoming a problem and their behavior was going to become a safety issue for them around the canines if something didn't change.
Ringo became increasingly aggressive in the last few weeks. Now fully mature, the testosterone was obviously flowing freely and he became ornery toward us and several of the other animals whenever approached. We couldn't let them roam free out in the pasture either as coyotes are definitely an issue around these part. Some of our prior geese met with a gruesome fate from coyotes several years ago.
My wife started looking for a home for Ringo's family and was fortunate enough to find a young man, a high school student, who raises geese with his father. Ringo and his two ladies were delivered to him yesterday and he was happy and we are relieved. Things in the barn yard quieted down immediately. The chickens are happy, Angus our Shetland and Sammy the goat can now chase each other playfully without the geese under foot, and our canines are no longer tempted to try goose for dinner. Feeding time for all of the animals is a lot easier now as there is "peace in the valley".
And as for Ringo, Lucy and their offspring, we are glad they have a new home where their eggs will be put to good use and they won't be in danger. I guess you can say we have the perfect "win-win".
Dear Lord, We thank you for the time we had with the goose family to observe and learn about them and appreciate your help in finding them a new home. Our life with animals can sometimes be challenging, but we see them as a beautiful gift from you and we marvel at the variety and beauty of the various animals we have been blessed with. Help us to learn from them and properly care for and use them for your glory as intended by your grant to us of dominion over them. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
If you've never had animals or don't know much about their beauty and grace, take time to learn about them. Visit a farm, take a walk through nature, or even rescue a pet in need of a home. You'll learn much, experience a new joy in your life, and get a better understanding of the love of a gracious Father who gave them to us to appreciate and enjoy.
Have a great day with the Lord in your life.
