Sadly, as I get older, I began to see that what started off as a reasonable assumption, has now been destroyed by corruption, greed and political influence. Oh, there are still many small businessmen who have hit a home run with what they do for a living, but it is rapidly dwindling and crony capitalism, the link between large corporations and unearned reward by government has destroyed what made this country great. Junkets, special bonuses and even outright bribery seem to be the order of the day as government picks who will be successful not based on results but based on who forks over the cash.
Now this has always been a problem in government, for wherever power lurks the unscrupulous are always around looking to take advantage. But never has it been like it is today and never have both parties had so many players so involved at the same time. It actually appears that they are often working in cahoots to pull off the biggest swindle of taxpayer dollars. Could they even be rehearsing their debates to pull off a huge sham that we fall for?
We're over $17 trillion in debt, have unfunded liabilities many times greater and yet no one wants to stop the spending. Meanwhile, those who have retired are hearing that the solution is cutting social security and, of course, $750 billion has been taken out of Medicare to pay for Medicaid. Social security's main problem with funding shortfall has been caused by incorporating disability into the social security system; it was clear from the start that this should be a different program. And now with millions of illegals being allowed to enter the country, many are receiving government assistance despite what the government tells you. Who wants to bet that much of the medical care being meted out to those illegals is coming out of the Medicare cutbacks?
Meanwhile, on the other side of the financial picture, the Mark Zuckerbergs and the Bill Gates types will always be fine. They work hand in hand with the Obamabots, as do many large corporations, aided by the Chamber of Commerce, to keep their place at the federal trough while small business owners and the middle class suffer, are forced to make painful cutbacks, losing benefits and retirement as they continued to watch the standard of living drop. And of course this is exacerbated as the fat cats push for more and more cheap labor from abroad with their political shills such as most of the Democrats as well as Republican leaders such as McConnell, the Boehner, and even the potential Republican candidates such as Jeb Bush and Paul Ryan. Please, give me a break.
And what about the rest of the politicians in Washington, both parties included? They continue on with their junkets, live the cushy life of luxury while they spend less and less time with their constituents, opting for vacations and visits with the big dollar contributors instead. Living in Washington where the economy is booming, they have completely lost track of what is happening to the rest of us.
Of course, it's not necessary to detail the goings and comings of the President since his vacation braggadocio is the one area where he is transparent, except for his desire to try to hold secret the cost.
I am very lucky that my wife and I are frugal, something that most Americans seem to have more and more trouble with, but as time goes on and the nation finally feels the pressure of the "real" economy which is truly not doing well, it will eventually get the best of all of us. We can't have a nation with 92 million working age people out of the workforce while inviting low skilled, high support requirement illegals into the country and survive for long.
And add this to the waste of money on additional military "adventures" which have been caused by Obama's feckless foreign policy, and the future indeed does not look rosy. If you are going to fight an enemy, identify him, call him by name, and destroy him. Small strikes and no strategic plan for how to win is never going to be successful. And with the likes of John McCain picking our "rebel allies" in the Middle East among those who are cousins to the enemy, more of the same disastrous result is likely while the defense industry builds and sells more material that is likely to be used against us.
All of us need to open our eyes, look honestly and then act in November. While I am no lover of the Republican Party which left me years ago, I do know that at this juncture of time it is our only hope. And the first order of business is getting Harry Reid out of his Senate lead role for he has blocked all legislation and crippled our chances to get anything done. And for the House, remove and replace John Boehner with a Conservative who will face the real problems. We must throw off the ties to the lobbyists and the Chamber of Commerce and focus on the America people, the ones who are supposed to represented by both houses of Congress. Clean out those lacking a moral core, change direction, and get ready for 2016. And at that point, find a true American leader who puts America first, not on the path to active support of a One World Order.
It's a tough path, but it can be done. Do we as a nation have the willpower and "guts" to make the tough decisions and carry forth with them? Only time will tell. I pray daily that a leader will step to the forefront and give common sense and experiential guidance to help us along, someone who loves God first and country second, for only with God in our hearts can we get where we need to go.
I have an idea who that might be, but that's for another day. In the meantime, stay focused, ask God to direct everything you do in your daily life and have a good start to a new work week. And God bless America.
