From a beginning the day previous with a chance skirmish, the battle quickly escalated into a bloodletting with thousands committed to the action on both sides. This was tragic on both sides as some of America's finest at the time, many actually mere boys, died on a battlefield, often a slow death in oppressive heat and great pain since medical support was limited and overwhelmed.
God help us to never have another war like this, although today many are fearful of an oppressive government which seems to put no boundaries on their actions. Perhaps our memories of the past will bring our leaders to reevaluate their actions, and may cool heads always prevail, but we must always stand with God and follow Him. That is what He expects and to do so will result in the ultimate gift, everlasting life. Certainly a prayer will help us as we labor on:
Dear Heavenly Father, Please shine your guiding light on us and keep us faithful and true to Thee and Thy law. Help us to always remember the ramifications of that great battle and that war in our history and to apply lessons learned to our current life.
And help our leaders to support those things that are just and true, not based on personal pride, selfishness, and gain. Open their eyes to the beauty of what our Founders created and return this great land to freedom and individual liberty.
Help us to always stand against tyranny and with Thee, protecting our right to determine our own destiny and enjoy the fruits of our labor, providing charity to those in real need voluntarily and without any desire for praise . Help us to do these things always remembering that Thou art the cause for any success we might find.
Bless us, keep us safe and always glorifying Thee with the goal to live for Eternity in Thy House when our days on earth are done. We ask in the name of Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
God bless America and may she return to her roots.
