Time to Flush Out the Republican Establishment

12/31/2015

PictureHere's my ticket: Trump-Cruz
As I listen to the shameless babble from the Republican Establishment talking heads saying why we need a Jeb or someone like him for President I feel almost nauseous.  Conservatives have been the source of victory for the Republican Party since Ronald Reagan and yet we are told over and over that we must have a moderate, we must change our views to reflect crossing the aisle to meet with the likes of Harry Reid.

Give me a break. Conservatives have elected a Republican Senate and a Republican House since 2010 and what have we received in response?  Disdain and sneering "dirty tricks", that's what.  And I don't know about you but, using the words of fictional broadcaster Howard Beale, "I am mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."  I've held my nose while voting for a RINO for the last time and while conservatism is very important, even more so is the forcefulness to "bulldoze" over the McConnells and Boehner/Ryans of the political scene to "git 'er done".  That's why I like Donald Trump and would like him to be President with Ted Cruz as a very active vice president.

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump is a doer and a shaker and while he might apply a little bit of braggadocio he proves that he WILL "git 'her done".  He has the business and budget acumen that our nation sorely needs and he is a master negotiator.   Why does he take the extreme position from the outset and then dials it back when he must?  Ask for everything when the negotiations start.  Then when it's over you will be successful, unlike the Republicans of today who give the kitchen sink away from the get-go.  And if you don't think Trump is a doctrinaire Conservative , well, you're right. But he's a realist and truly loves this country and wants to bring her back to greatness where all Americans can be winners once again.  And that's what I want first and foremost.

So where does this put Ted Cruz in my scheme of things?  Well, Ted is brilliant with a fantastic legal background and the oratory skills to match, and if he becomes Vice President (and I believer that's what Trump wants as well), Trump will use him actively. Trump has reputation for taking only the best people and giving them all the responsibility they can handle. He possesses the art of effective delegation.

Let a President Trump put his active VP in charge of cleaning up all of the illegal actions by the current Administration.  What a reputation that would build for this one term young Senator and it would be a great win-win for each of them and the country.  Just think what that would do for this leader to go on to succeed Trump in the White House after The Donald has taken a wrecking ball to the entrenched bureaucrats and corrupt Establishment politicians.

Trump can shake it up and turn things around with his skill at taking on all comers and putting them to shame and the media loses out every time they go after him.  He's going to get the media attention and when he accomplishes what he plans he can be as braggadocious  as he wants.  And the Establishment will just, in their cowardly way, have to disappear into the woodwork like the cockroaches that they are.  But with Ted coming in later as his replacement, they will be doomed to stay there.

Look, I know some say that he used to be a Democrat but don't forget, before becoming Governor of California and President, the great Ronald Reagan was a liberal Democrat and a Hollywood union leader to boot. And Donald Trump will be beholden to no special interest or other campaign contributor because he paid his own way.  And absolutely no one else in consideration for the highest office in the land can match that.

So to my good conservative friends and I mean that sincerely, I love Ted Cruz and think he is a good man with a great future, but let's let a heavyweight take the initial steps, get things on track to a balanced budget and a resurgence of America's reputation and power, and then let Ted follow up to keep things on track.  Business and legal savvy, wisdom with age and youthful vitality are here in a great combination. Let's use it to America's advantage and bring her back to greatness.

God bless you all and Happy New Year.

THE AMERICAN DOG: TRULY A GIFT FROM GOD

PictureYeardley in his later years
One thing about us Americans: we may disagree on politics, religion, social ways and so much more, but for those of us who have dogs in the family we have a bond that is very strong.  Dog lovers share a love for a wonderful animal which is a companion, sometimes a body guard, but mostly a member of the family, a critter that gives unconditional love for a pat, a little food and water and a kind word.

Oh, I know there are some "bad" dogs out there, but like bad children they are usually the fault of a "parent" who has not appropriately carried out his end of the bargain when he or she acquired the animal.  And don't worry, all you horse and cat lovers out there; we'll do a show about them sometime soon in the future, but this Wednesday night on North Florida Writer Live will be devoted to the American dog, a true tradition in the American lifestyle and a wonderful gift from a gracious God.

Our family has had many dogs of many varieties.  Dalmatians, a Springer spaniel, a rottweiler "mutt", Great Danes, poodle, chihuahua, and two Great Pyrenees, just to name a few, and we have been blessed with living in a rural area affording "growing room" for some of the big fella's.  We'll tell a few stories tonight and I'll even take a few calls if someone has a brief snippet about why their dog is so special.  If you wish to call in, dial the number listed on the program board when you dial in, then press #1 to get in the queue.

One of my stories is tinged in sadness, a story about Yeardley, the Springer, pictured here who is no longer with us but was such a joy to have as a part of our life, Mr. Happy-Go-Lucky if ever there was one.  And we'll also talk about two giants, Val and Sal, and their little sidekick, Molly, who are truly the guardians of the farm, plus more. We'll focus on the good things about dogs and how they play such a positive role in our lives.

Now this show is listed in the lifestyle category on Blog Talk Radio, and I can think of nothing more appropriate to our lifestyle, or that of the millions of other Americans who are blessed with a loyal dog in their family.  I hope you'll tune in at 9:30 tonight; the show will be available on demand later.  Here's the link:

Oh, Those Boys are Being Bad Again!!

Picture
For those of us who have owned a really big dog, we know there is no animal that can give more love but we also know that when they have a moment of mischief, it is usually significant.   And in the case of our two Great Pyrenees, outdoor dogs all the way, they sometimes get into trouble during their all night property guard shift if things are just too quiet for them.  The latest evidence came just before Christmas.

Christmas Eve morning I was getting ready to go out and run a few final errands before the big day. As I walked to the truck, it was unseasonably warm and it didn't feel like Christmas but, then again, I know that the weather we have has nothing to do with that wonderful day so many years ago.  Now normally I would just jump in the truck, back up and then drive forward through the gate and down the lane on my way to town, but on that day a little voice told me NO.  It seems I needed to walk behind the truck and check things out first.

Normally Val and Sal come to greet me and follow me to the gate, but there was no sign of them when I came out.  I would soon find out the reason.

I sat thinking about both my inner thoughts and the two dogs for a moment and the feeling was so strong to check behind the truck that I listened. Boy, is it a good thing that I did because there scattered on the ground behind the truck were the contents of a cardboard box of nails.  They were everywhere and I knew exactly who did it.  Val and Sal were nosing around in the barn and uncovered this little treasure, and try as I might to "dog proof" the barn, it is impossible.  When you have two big dogs, one tipping the scales at around two hundred pounds and the other a slim one sixty, they can usually figure out how to overcome any obstacle.  After all the nails were on the top shelf which is at my eye level.

I counted to ten, then took a deep breath and grabbed a bucket and my ground magnet and went to work.  About ten minutes later the damage was undone and I just had to sit down and laugh for a moment.  Yes, there are a few minor problems with their behavior, but these two behemoths are both very gentle and loving with us, but that countenance changes when they sense trouble from the outside.  So I know that my wife and I and all of our extended animal family are safe on these grounds with Val and Sal at attention.  Since getting these half-brothers, we can even let our chickens free range with nary a worry about coyotes.  But please, boys, please, keep your noses out of the shelving in the barn, will you?

Dogs, what a wonderful gift from God. In time of need, they are our guardian angels.

PRAY FOR LAST NIGHT'S TORNADO VICTIMS IN DALLAS METRO

12/27/2015

PictureOne of the deadly Dallas twisters last night.
Imagine being in Texas last night in the path of the group of tornadoes that came through the Dallas metro area.  It was the day after Christmas, most were probably relaxing and enjoying the last of the Christmas Spirit with family and friends and BAM!  Out of nowhere came a group of deadly twisters in random fashion.  For most it happened so fast that they weren't even aware of what was coming until it was too late.

In seconds, life is changed or it is gone. Material possessions, family homes and autos are destroyed in seconds and a sense of numbness and shock sets in for a while.  It is a helpless feeling whenever and wherever it strikes and it requires courage, resourcefulness and the blessing of good and kind friends and strangers alike who step in to help the rebuilding of homes, towns and lives.

Let's all take a moment to join in prayer for these good people.  We don't know why things like this happen the way they do, but we do know that God has a reason for everything and He is there to help. And remember, satan is alive and well on earth since he was banished from heaven.  God has not yet ended his earthly reign as a test of your making good choices with your free well.  And situations like this have a way of separating the wheat from the chaff among us for it takes patience like that of Job to handle what comes our way in a most uncertain life.

Lift up your heart in prayer:

Dear Lord,  We thank you for the glory that is life and the many blessings that you constantly endow us with.  But we also know that in a world that has so much evil and sin juxtaposed to Thy goodness that bad things do happen.  And sometimes they happen to good people.  Help us to keep our hearts open to the Holy Spirit who connects us with Jesus and who in turn connects us with You, for we know that the only way to You is through Thy Son, Jesus Christ.  Show us the way to deal with such tragedies and to help others who are suffering this day.  The people in the path of these storms need our help and our love and lead us to do what we can to pitch in to help them get over the pain and suffering and find a quick return to the vibrant community of citizens that they are.  And lead them to always trust in You and have faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior, for He is truly the Way, the Truth and the Life for all of us.  We ask this prayer in the Savior's name,  Amen.

May God's mercy and goodness sustain them as they rebuild their lives and their towns.  With His love and grace, they will not fail.  And may the deceased and their families find peace and comfort through Him.

Sunday Morning Coming Down: We Found the Line to See Jesus

12/26/2015

PictureWe found it on Christmas Eve
My programming on North Florida Writer Live this season has been almost exclusively devoted to the coming of Christmas, since Christmas plays such an important part in my life.  Without the birth of the Savior in human form, we humans wouldn't have the opportunity to gain Eternal Life and look forward to a life after earthly death of such joy and peace.

The question: Where's the Line to See Jesus?, based on that beautiful song by Becky Kelley, has been a principal basis for our theme and all during the preliminary holiday planning and festivities I have wondered why so much emphasis today is placed on secular things. Why do so many spend hours standing in line for Santa and for special sales, yet less and less is involved with lining our hearts up to see Jesus?

Finally my question was answered on Christmas Eve, for attending the beautiful country church that I call my spiritual home, looking at the large crowd filing in, the green and read colors and the Christmas tree with white lights, poinsettias and the Advent wreath, and the lighted picture of Jesus behind the pulpit brought things to light.  On this beautiful night we were all "lined up to see Jesus", not just entering the church or waiting for communion, but also as we filed out into the dark evening at its conclusion to a  waiting full moon, covered with mist and surrounded by a giant ring as if it was shining down directly on our little church.

This weekend's Sunday Morning Coming Down devotional is devoted to a story of this wonder and it will be the culmination of my Christmas programming for this year.  I hope you will tune in; it's now available on demand.  Here's the link:

I hope your Christmas was merry and that you also have a most happy and prosperous New Year.  God bless.

Rejoice, Christians: The King of Kings is Born

12/25/2015

And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.   - Luke 2:7 ESV

Today culminates the celebration that began with the anticipation during Advent.  The King of Kings is born and He will go on to do wondrous things in his life.  The above pictures point out just a few, including his baptism by John the Baptist, His bringing Lazarus back to life after being dead for four days, His triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and His praying in the Garden of Gethsemane as he awaited His arrest and ultimate crucifixion.  And now we await His return with the Second Coming.  Think about it: Jesus Christ our Lord knew what His life on earth was about and how it would end, yet this man and God went through with the pain and suffering just for us.

So today we celebrate His birth and the beginning of His life as a mere mortal while also being a God with the power to avoid the pain had He wished.  On this day God put himself directly into human history through His Son and the world was forever changed.  And now we await his return in ultimate Glory when He comes back to rule the world and banish sin forever.  Are you ready in your heart for Him?  If not, open your heart and let the Son shine in.  Your life will be changed forever.

The Special Responsibility Given to Joseph and Mary So Long Ago

12/22/2015

PictureMary and Joseph on way to Bethlehem
Imagine being either Mary or Joseph on this day those many years ago. Oh, we're not talking about this day based upon our date for the celebration of Jesus' birth, for we know that Jesus wasn't born in December.  But just consider a mere four days before His birth and what the couple was going through.  After all, despite Mary's advanced pregnancy and the stress that can cause in even good times, Mary and Joseph had to travel by donkey along rough roads in any possible type of weather to go the town of Joseph's birth for census taking and tax registration.

Perhaps they were in the last stage of preparing for the arduous journey or maybe they were already on their way.  Regardless, it was a tough time and we all know that it didn't get any easier right up to, and including, the birth.  What an amazing manner that the Lord used to bring his only Son to earth as God and Man to offer the gift of salvation.

Or what about the Wise Men or the Shepherds?  How about the townspeople seeing them on the road to Bethlehem?  Were they aware of the miracle coming and what it would mean to the world?

As we continue our focus on Christmas on North Florida Writer Live this season, we will think about just how difficult it was for this couple and all the others involved, knowingly or not, in this story for the ages.  Remember, Joseph and Mary could have turned down the mission assigned to them by God, yet they didn't, and because of that the Greatest Story Ever Told begins with them.  This is a continuation of where we started over a week ago with Joseph and Mary, but I think it is important to understand the very human side of this divine drama which began before the date of Christ's birth.

And what about today and in the future?  What if it were today?  What would the situation be like and how would people react? And then there is the preparation for his return?  Will we be ready to accept the King of Kings as our ruler of the world?  It's what is expected of us and it is way past time to prepare.  But all of these questions should be answered by each of us at this time of year when we should be focused on His coming (both as a baby and His return).  God wants to put the love of Jesus to work for all of us, yet with free will we must make the choice, choosing Him or His evil combatant who is always nearby trying to snare souls.

Let's talk about this tonight and get ready for the great event, commemoration and the future to come on North Florida Writer Live. The show starts at 9:30 pm and then will be available on demand. Hope to see you then.   Here's the link:

Who Says I Can't Say MERRY CHRISTMAS?

12/21/2015

PictureIt's Merry Christmas, not Seasons Greetings
Only a few days left until Christmas Day is here and if ever there was a time to have a special day for both our celebration of our faith and having some fun now is it.  But sadly, we continue to hear the sordid stories of having to remove all vestiges of the meaning of Christmas from the public square as godless judges and others try to dictate their views on the overwhelming majority of Americans.  We even have a national holiday on this day and even though it is recognized as a secular day by the government it still includes the very name of the King of Kings whose birth established it.

I read of a school which banned Charlie Brown's Christmas because of its reference to a verse in the Gospel of Luke, yet schoolchilren are forced to acknowledge Allah while their parents fume. And here's the thing: when you remove Christ from Christmas the result is NO MAS.  And to that I say NO MORE.  I personally will say Merry Christmas to each and everyone I greet during this season.  I've been doing it for generations and I don't intend to stop now, and I believe that an overwhelming number of Americans feel the same way.

Normally I get either a big smile, a return greeting of Merry Christmas or even a puzzled look by some, but rarely do I get anyone telling me they are offended.  But on those occasions when that happens I simply tell them that greeting them with Merry Christmas is the nicest, most special greeting I can give at the most wonderful time of the year.  They usually then brighten up, realizing that my faith is shining through.  When they don't, I just politely say that they might want to check it out for themselves and then I go about my way.

One recent day in a local store a young lady at the cash register was wearing her company name tag while busily checking out customers.  Her name was Kristen and when it was my turn in line I remarked that she had a beautiful name.  She asked why I thought so and I stated the name came from Christ, that she is a child of Christ.  She just shrugged and retorted that she thought her mother made it up.  I walked away, probably with a slight shaking of my head but was surprised a few days later when I saw her in the store again.

Kristen looked at me and said, "Hi, Mister, I'm sorry about the other day.  I went home and read about my name and realized that you were right, that it does mean something special".

I responded, "Well, Kristen, I'm glad you know.  And have a very Merry Christmas."

Much to my delight she responded, "And Merry Christmas to you."

So folks, when it comes to saying Merry Christmas it is very much like telling someone God bless when you depart.  It's just a little thing, but you never know what those little things might do for someone's heart.  It is just a small part of our Christian mission to spread the Good News of Jesus  Christ.  It's not to force your will on anyone since that is a free will matter, but it does tell the story of who you are if you believe. After all, unless you are ashamed of Him, you should sing His praise in everything you do in this life on earth.

God bless you all and get ready, 'cause He's coming again at a time we don't know.  When it comes, however, all denial will be gone.  Don't be late to the Glory.

SUNDAY MORNING COMING DOWN: THE OTHER MIRACLE BABY

12/19/2015

PictureJohn the Baptist
On this weekend's Sunday Morning Coming Down we focus on the commonality found between the Savior, Jesus Christ, and His most ardent believer, a man who spent his life preparing the way for Jesus when he was finally fully revealed at age thirty.  John the Baptist, an itinerant Jewish preacher who lived in the desert, wore rough clothing, ate of locusts and honey and looked fearful and wild to many, yet had the gift of the Word provided by God.

Jesus was born five months after John and while Jesus was born of an immaculate conception, John was also conceived in a miraculous way. You see, John's mother, Elizabeth was barren and at the time of his birth she was elderly.  Yet God chose this other miracle to identify him as someone of the Spirit, born to be the "advance man" for His Savior, who was also his cousin and of the lineage of the House of David.

There could no better way to buttress the story of the birth of Christ than by adding this miraculous man to the equation, for nothing that happens on God's earth is a coincidence; all the pieces of the puzzle were put together by God for a reason.  It is up to us to study and ponder to realize what that is.  For some it comes easily, for others with much difficulty, but when faith is applied to these things that have happened, the fog is finally lifted from our eyes.

I hope you will join us. The show was recorded earlier today and is now available 24/7 as part of the December month long celebration of the birthday of Jesus Christ by Sunday Morning Coming Down and our other shows on North Florida Writer Live.  We will also have some appropriate music, including the great song for which our weekend show is named, a Christmas carol and a special song about how important realizing that Jesus Christ is the One we are supposed to be celebrating.  Here's the link:

SANTA COMES TO THE FLORIDA SWAMP: TONIGHT AT 9:30

12/18/2015

PictureNo reindeer sleigh down here, folks
As we continue on North Florida Writer Live with Christmas fast approaching, I thought it would be a good time to lighten up a bit with a fun story about Santa Claus.  We all are familiar with Santa and his sleigh in the snow and ice, but how does he get along down here in Florida, a land full of thick woods, large swamps and both alligators and snakes?  A sleigh won't work in the muck and mire and the high humidity and thick foreboding and dark woods aren't appropriate for reindeer.

Oh, he's made it through before, but this year it's different.  Florida is engulfed with horrendous fog and Santa won't be able to even see his reindeer.  So how in the world is he going to get it done with all of the other worldwide stops he must make?

There's only one answer.  Santa calls an old farmer friend in the Sunshine State who knows these parts better than anyone.  And he knows that this good man, with children and grandchildren who either haven't been disappointed or don't want to be, will solve his problem.

Our show, entitled "Santa Calls for Help from a Goliath", tells the story of Santa's Christmas travels in the swamp and woods with a surprising friend who leads the way.  The show is for children of all ages and will air at 9:30 Friday night on BlogTalkRadio.  But don't worry if you miss it, it will remain on demand at the same link which is listed below.  So get in the Spirit of Joy and Fun to go with the important real reason for Christmas.  After all, Jesus wanted all of us to have a little fun and use a little imagination in life. It helps you be well-rounded, but not in the sense of a well-rounded Santa. Hope you'll join us for the story as well as some good Christmas music. Here's the link:

Santa Claus is certainly coming to town, but he's also coming to the swamp.  Join him on his journey.
