A Prayer: The Promise of a New Week

8/31/2015

Sometimes the opening of a new week brings with it a feeling of dread.  Maybe we left work tasks  undone last week and know we must work doubly hard to catch up. Or maybe that weekend we so looked forward to didn't turn out so well and we wish we had it back so that it would make us feel better. Or maybe we even regret that we didn't make it to church yesterday and feel that our Spirit is not as strong as it should be as we walk out again into the sometimes cold and cruel world.

But there is another and I think much better way to look at things.  Why not look at the week ahead as a time for a new beginning, as a promise of better things to come.  After all, God is always nearby and He loves us. He just wants us to turn our attention to Him and let Him work His magic through us and for us.  Won't you join me for a Monday morning prayer of promise?

Dear Lord:   We thank you for all of the wonders of this world and this life that you have so graciously given us.  But we also know that we have disappointed you, for sometimes we become self-centered and seek only what we want and what we expect from you, forgetting that purpose for which we were made, which is to serve you and put you first.

Help us to use this Monday morning as a first step of a new beginning, a beginning during which we get our priorities straight and our lives and our purpose in proper order.  Rain or shine, the elements that you have given us serve a wonderful purpose, for the rain is needed to quinch the thirst of all things and the sun gives energy and vibrance and the glorious light and warmth so needed as well.  And help us to use these elements to nurture the earth and all that is herein in our role as stewards of all living things.

We also know that we should not be fearful, for with you at our side we cannot go wrong, yet we sometimes allow our minds to wander and become afraid and lonely when you are always here with us to keep us sound and on track.  Open our hearts and our eyes to your wonders and help us to see things as you want us to, not as our frail and mortal selves sometimes fail to do.

We worry about our loved ones and our nation and the direction we are headed, particularly in a time when so many have turned from you.  Instead of being filling with worry, help us to focus instead on your love and grace, always knowing that through you anything is possible, and help us to use that knowledge to serve as missionaries for your purpose in all that we say and do.  We must be bold about it, not meek and we must be strong to answer the challenges it will bring, but keep us always mindful that you are with us as our guide and protector.

Take our doubts away, fill us with your love and your spirit in all that we do, remembering that if we live for you we will inherit a place at your table with you and the Son, Jesus Christ, when this life is done.  We ask in the name of Jesus who lived and died so that we might have the opportunity to truly live in freedom: freedom from sin. Amen

Keep the Holy Spirit in your heart always and you will maintain that most important connection of life: your link to the Son and through Him to the Father.  Have a wonderful Monday living His way.

Today on Sunday Morning Coming Down: Are Guardian Angels for Real?

On this week's Sunday Morning Coming Down we are going to talk about Guardian Angels, those special representatives from God who are sometimes sent to provide special protection and guidance from above to those believers in special times of need.  Some people scoff at the idea, others accept them as real, but it is hard to escape the thought that they are around us since so many people have had experiences involving them.

Do they exist in our mind, do they physically appear just like a living, breathing person or are they only spiritual in nature?  Well, judging from their many appearances throughout the Bible it would seem they come into our presence from the spiritual realm yet they often are vivid and clear in terms of their reality.  And more often than not they have no wings, taking on an appearance like a mortal but with a majestic countenance about them, for theirs is a special mission for someone in need who has faith in the powers of an Almighty God.  If witnessed, they carry a powerful message which is hard to be denied.

The shepherds in the fields witnessed an angel at the time of the birth of Christ, advising them that Jesus Christ was born in the City of David.  There are, in fact, several hundred situations in the Bible involving the active participation of angels, right on up to the Book of Revelations with the Archangel Michael appearing in full battle regalia for the Lord. Modern day people often talk of guardian angels as beings taking on a life form, yet remaining largely mystical in appearance while keeping them safe and secure in situations which could have become harmful or even deadly.  Most Christians see them as special gifts from God at certain times when mortal man receives a special blessing to see him through trying times.

This morning Guardian Angels will be our devotional topic on Sunday Morning Coming Down.  Told in story format, it will show a situation where someone needed help but at the time didn't recognize it until after the fact. And whether or not it involved a real angel cannot be affirmed scientifically but it sure seems that way.  And again, faith, that important component that is necessary to be a believer, plays such an important part.  You be the judge yourself.

We'll also have some good Christian music,  a few short passages from the Bible and a closing prayer.  I hope you'll join us, particularly if you have no way to attend services this Sunday due to whatever cause may be keeping you away.  Sunday Morning Coming Down is just my way of trying to bring a good message to any who would like to participate.  Here's the link:

Really, Jeb, You Side with Ramos?

So Donald Trump was in Iowa giving a press conference when Univision's Jorge Ramos jumped out of turn, grabbed a mike and started barking comments, not a question, at The Donald.  Donald just looked his way and told him it wasn't his turn  and he needed to sit down. After a couple of iterations he had Ramos escorted out of the press conference, but later, after he had addressed the others in order, he invited him back in.

I thought Trump's actions were both reasonable and also a step above, inviting a man who showed no class, no manners and actually wanted to jabber, not question when the frontrunner could have just shunned him and been done with him.  But Trump has a way of understanding what works and doesn't and he probably didn't want anyone to think he was unwilling to tangle with the activist fronting as a newsman.  And besides, he bested him pretty handily in the discussion that they had and showed why he resonates with the public and what makes him the current leader in the hunt for the Republican presidential nomination.

But, of course, the media tried to position Trump as being the one in the wrong, failing to look at things objectively (surprise!) and then, as if on script, Jeb Bush makes the comment today that Donald Trump didn't show Jorge Ramos appropriate respect.  Really, Jeb, respect?  Donald Trump didn't have to invite Ramos back in the room after his rudeness and after making comments with his opinion instead of asking questions.  Donald was more than fair, just direct, and an activist masquerading as a journalist has no business behaving as he did.

And maybe, just maybe, Jeb, you need to learn a little something about Ramos before you assume he is just a television reporter trying to do his job.  Did you know, Jeb, that Ramos is a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico and votes in both countries? Did you know that his daughter is on the Hillary Clinton campaign staff?  Do you really think that he's an objective newsman instead of just a La Raza supporting hack?  I doubt it, Jeb, I doubt it but, then again, you tend to look at things more favorably for the illegal aliens than you do for hard working American citizens, so maybe that's why.

So keep it up, Donald. You have the imagination of American citizens pondering their country after we've made it great again.  And for that, not Jorge Ramos and certainly not Jeb Bush or the Establishment can slow us down from our destiny. God bless you in the mission your are on to make America great again.

And as for

TONIGHT: THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ANCHOR BABY ISSUE

Mark  Levin is one of the most knowledgeable men in America regarding the Constitution of the United States and what it says and means to the people of the United States.  His Landmark Legal Foundation has been a bulwark in the fight for liberty, his brainchild from a successful career as an attorney, including service as the Chief of Staff to the Attorney General under Ronald Reagan.  He is also a successful author, his latest book, Plunder and Deceit, is today a best seller on the New York Times book list and he hosts a daily weekday talk radio program with a huge audience across the nation.

Levin is one of the principal sources of the information we will discuss tonight on North Florida Writer Live, the issue of anchor babies and the Fourteenth Amendment and the faulty views that so many pass on as fact about it.  Birthright citizenship was never intended to be part of the citizenship clause of the amendment and we'll discuss it's creation and what the prime mover for it, Senator Jacob Howard of Michigan, wrote about it at the time of its creation in 1866.  It was designed to make sure that the slaves who had been freed as a result of the Civil War were also afforded citizenship, not as an easy way for illegals to gain the privilege merely by crossing the border immediately before having children.

Senator Howard and several other Senators discussed in depth the purpose and meaning of the amendment's provisions with emphasis placed on the inclusion of the words "in the jurisdiction of" as it applies to the amendment.  Jurisdiction is the key to the truth and it will be a principle focus of our comments tonight.

I hope you will join my discussion with Mark Collier tonight at 9 as we try to set the record straight on the true meaning and purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment.  It's time to apply both truth and common sense and end the anchor baby fiasco that has become such a burden on the taxpaying citizens of the United States.  The show will also be available on demand upon completion. Oh, The Stupid Web the Republican Establishment Tries to Weave

8/25/2015

Picture
The Republican Establishment really is making fools of themselves as they try to figure out a way to take down Donald Trump.  And no one is more intimately involved in stirring the pot than Alex Castellanos, a long time consultant with ties to the Bush family and Mitt Romney.  This weekend he was bragging about how the Establishment could go about ending Trump's run.  He said that they should get close to him and then use a shiv to finish him, just like Brutus did to Caesar in ancient Rome.

Oh, I know it was just an expressive statement, not a reality, but to think that the stumblers and bumblers in the Establishment think they have figured out how to end the Trump campaign is laughable.  Their favorite, Jeb Bush, is looking weak and indecisive and can't even clearly express himself while The Donald is riding high, drawing huge and excited crowds as he takes the oxygen out of the room from all of the other candidates.  And they are also too stupid to realize that their own actions have created the Trump candidacy, for Trump didn't decide to enter the fray until he realized that the Republicans would never have the "guts" to take on the real issues and support the people who put them there.  It's truly amazing that after two successive losses in Presidential elections with mediocre candidates they can't figure out what the problem is.

Sadly, they know, but they put their own self interests as candidate brokers and slaves to the Chamber of Commerce for money first, because as we saw in 2012, Karl Rove's campaign raked in some thirty million dollars while Romney lost and they were able to laugh all the way to the bank despite the defeat.  And Alex Castellanos is just another one of those long term consultants whose allegiance has no relationship to the average American that his party is supposed to serve.

And that bring me back to Trump, an energetic, brash but also brilliant man who loves his country and wants to make her great again.  And since he is financially independent to the highest degree and has no need to pander to the Republican pundits, they can't stand the fact that he is his own man.  And that, folks, is what America loves about him, plus his glee at breaking the chains of political correctness.  And while there are other qualified candidates to consider, no one else has the combination of independence and passion of his own confidence in tackling the monumental task ahead.  He knows that should his goal be attained, he will be inheriting the helm of a government that is dysfunctional with an employee base that is demoralized on the one hand with other portions of it clearly out of control.  Trump, a no nonsense taskmaster, is just the one to take it on and, in the process, cut the operation down to size.

So Alex Castellanos, I think you might want to put a gag on your mouth, because if you bring a shiv to a street brawl with Trump, he's likely to bring a .357 with a back-up combat patrol.  Oh, this upcoming political season is surely gonna' be fun.  Put your seatbelts on and stand by.

Ashley Madison: Symptom of Moral Decay in America

8/24/2015

Picture
Most of us remember the case of former Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina, a man who was missing from Columbia for a number of days several years ago while he was off in Argentina visiting his mistress.  Many were shocked, others just laughed, but a man who until that time had a pretty stellar public record disgraced himself and his family and ultimately resigned.  Now as far as I know Sanford never used the Ashley Madison site, but I guess they figured he was "fair game" for advertising.  And apparently he was ultimately forgiven by South Carolinians as he is now sitting in the United States House of Representatives, but that's a subject for a different time.

So what in the world is wrong with successful men and women who can't control themselves?  I mean, really, they pay money to use a website to find an exciting fling because the good life that they have just isn't enough for them.  And they come from all walks of life.  With the recent revelation that thirty-seven million subscribers have had their accounts hacked, we are learning that high level government employees, including Justice Department attorneys, Homeland Security personnel, employees of the Defense Department possibly including some military types and even a high ranking White House information technology manager are subscribers.  And it came out several days ago that Washington, D.C. has the highest number of subcribers of any metropolitan area, some even using government email addresses. You gotta' know they're sweating it right now.  Maybe all of the failures of our government in recent years is partly because many are more interested in pursuing an than in doing their jobs.

Sadly, this kind of behavior is just another symptom of the moral void that has become America today.  Cheating of all types is generally accepted silently and, of course, the more often that people make poor moral decisions which are accepted with silence, the more they become desensitized to the destruction of human character.  I like to use the example of a young hit man, hired to commit murder for money.  On the first occasion of doing his illicit job, he probably felt great remorse, but after ten jobs it was like stepping on  a bug.  And evil works that way, when we let it creep in to stay, it consumes us.

So now we're going to have a lot of heartbreak within families and the only ones who will be happy about it are the divorce attorneys.  I suspect we should be looking for a huge jump in divorce cases in the civil courts of America this fall and beyond.  And then there's the Ashley Madison organization itself, flippantly proposing affairs to end a life of boredom for morally weak people while guaranteeing anonymity, the very drawing card that they used to gain members which has crumbled at the hands of a hacker.  They couldn't keep it secret and now are likely to find their business in a shambles very fast.  Good for them; the result is well deserved.

But here's the last thing about this whole absurd situation.  If you are a married man or woman in a marriage that isn't doing well, or if you are just tempted to look for someone different and more exciting, think about what it will do to both you and that formerly special someone and get some help and try to make it work.  While the grass often looks greener on the other side, it usually isn't.  Rebuild you relationship by working on it together if you can; it just takes a little openness and honesty.  Anything worth having takes work.

Have a great day and God bless you all.

Christians and Civil Disobedience

8/22/2015

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.   - Romans 13:1

Christians down through the generations have asked questions about their allegiance to national leaders, particularly when the leaders have not represented a godly view of the world and, more particularly, have severely persecuted Christians.  From the Romans to the World War II and Cold War eras with Germany and the Soviet Union, even to modern day with dictatorial regimes worldwide, the question is a good one.  And no one handled it more accurately than the Apostle Paul, given the wisdom and power granted to Him by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.

Today many Christians around the world, including America, question the authority of the state to dictate actions that clearly violate their freedom of religion and their moral compass.  While Christians try to leave each to his or her own free will, they cannot silently sit by when they are told to violate the teachings of Christ and their responsibility to live for him. So what should they do and what can they do and what are the ramifications thereof?  These are some heady questions.

Well, we know that God's law is greater than man's, but God has given man authority to govern other men while expecting leaders to reflect His guidance and grace.  When they don't, believers have the choice of submitting to man or honoring God and they have to be willing to suffer the consequences.  And if that means going against the social order under which we find ourselves, we are expected to do so in a a non-violent way excepting the most extreme circumstances for remember, God expects us to love our neighbors, even those who might hate us.  So here is where civil disobedience, sometimes called passive resistance, comes into play.  And it has been done over the ages by Christians and other moral men who will not accept living under rules that are abhorrent to their concept of good living.

We'll talk about these things on our Sunday Morning Coming Down devotional this week. I hope you will tune in at your convenience for it will be available on demand when Sunday morning is coming down.   Here's he link:

Time to Replace the Republican Establishment

8/22/2015

Picture
As I watched the large and cheering crowd at the Trump Rally in Mobile last night, I thought of something that my favorite talk show host, Mark Levin said earlier in the evening.  The Trump phenomenon was created by the Republican Establishment and their consultant class and they deserve just what is happening to them.

Now I have been a Republican since I was first eligible to vote many moons ago and in all that time I have only voted for three Democrats and they were running in local elections.  But currently while I maintain registration as a Republican in actuality I prefer to call myself a Constitutional Conservative, because time and time again I have been woefully disappointed by the Party.  I think the final icing on the cake came about a year ago when the Establishment undercut young Chris McDaniel in Mississippi with their lies and deceit which they knew full well were despicable yet they carried out the action anyway.  A promising young State Senator who would have made a great United States Senator was destroyed by the RINO Establishment in favor a Thad Cochran, an old man who was guaranteed to do just what Washington wanted regardless of the desires of the people who was supposed to represent.

And then this past November when Mitch McConnell said if we would give him the Senate thereby allowing him to assume the Majority Leader position, the Republican Senate would work tirelessly to do those things which he had promised.  But that didn't last long, he sold us out the day after the election when he publicly admitted that the Republicans would fold like a bad hand of cards.  It brought back memories of a similar situation back in 2010 when John Boehner promised similar things and has now spent five years bowing and kowtowing to President Obama.  Both of these men and the Washington Establishment which they are entrenched in are despicable and should be removed from their positions post haste.

But it gets worse, and now the leadership team, weak and meandering, doesn't even hide their disdain for us, stating that this year in the Presidential cycle they will destroy the conservative wing of the party and they are pulling out all stops with the likes of milquetoast Jeb and a huge bankroll to do just that.  But the only problem is that they are so out of touch with those who put them in power, the base, that they didn't even see the disdain and animosity which real Republicans feel for them.  It's real and it's deep and it's not going away.

And like a character out of a fairy tale, behold Donald Trump has shown up on the scene, has connected with the base and has taken all of the oxygen out of the room for the other candidates.  Jeb looks weak and pathetic in his presentations, Marco Rubio has shown himself for what he is and even Scott Walker, who I have had a favorable disposition towards, has gone wishy washy since he must get funding support from Establishment donors.

And so with the exception of the self-funding Donald Trump, only Ted Cruz is standing tall and attracting small dollar donations at a record level to give him viability.  Some of the others who can also be considered quality candidates from the outsider group are having less success at gaining the funding support needed for a grueling campaign.

The Establishment has thrown, and will continue to throw everything it has at both Trump and Cruz, yet the base fully understands now what the Establishment is and wants and that it's not in the interest of the America voter, it's all for their riches and power.  The Roves and the RNC are fooling no one any longer and they are clearly in a panic.

So when Ted Cruz stands up  and shuts down liberal propaganda plants at the Iowa State Fair and Donald Trump approaches Mobile in his 757, circling to dip his wings in salute to the huge crowd awaiting, you had believe the times, they just might be 'a changin' sooner than we could have ever hoped and dreamed for.  I, for one, am ecstatic and hope that somehow, someway Mr. Trump and Senator Cruz can pull forces together for a November 2016 election blowout.  It's time to take over the Republican Party lock, stock and barrel for the people who are supposed to be the reason: the American voter.   Let's make The Donald's slogan, "Make America Great Again" a reality next year.

This Moment in Time: Even Florida is Leaning Toward Trump

8/21/2015

The strange nature of the early goings-on in the run up to Election 2016 is even showing up dramatically down here in the Sunshine State. The most recent Florida poll of Republican voters shows that right now Donald Trump leads the two Florida candidates, former Governor Jeb Bush and sitting Senator Marco Rubio by four and ten points respectively.  Looking at all active candidates in the Republican primary race, Trump has 21%, Bush 17% and Rubio 11%.

The poll, conducted by Quinnipiac, couches the results, however, by stating that Trump also has the highest unfavorables among candidates which they think will lead to his support not growing further and that when candidates start to drop out of the race his ranking will fall.  While this is often true, I think the combination of today's circumstances and the staying power of Trump in the race will impact that factor as well.  First, Trump has clearly been singled out for special negative treatment by the media due to his open and direct responses to questions which they trumpet by calling him unsuitable for the position of President. And this leads to the second point which is a clear counter to the first.  Trump, with his wealth and independence, has staying power.  And as we've seen from the "get-go" of this campaign, the more people learn about him and his views, the more they see him as a refreshing change.  It is likely his favorability will naturally go up as this information grows. Trump projects a winner, a man who does what he says he will do and isn't afraid to say so.

When you contrast that to the other candidates with their largely boring and staid demeanor, fearful that they'll get off their "handler given" message, they are lost like a deer in the headlights.  I think the average American looks at Trump as a man who is on a mission and they are willing to bet that he can get America where they want it to be again: a winner.  The more they learn, the better they like him and now that he is going into the issues, they are finding that his views are much more in line with theirs than the others.
And then there's this.  Tonight in Mobile, Alabama, just a stone's throw across the state line from the Florida panhandle, Trump will be campaigning in front of thirty to forty thousand supporters at the Senior Bowl football stadium.  Do you think there is any other candidate in America today who could draw that kind of crowd in a place like Mobile?  The answer is clear, particularly among all but one of the other Republican hopefuls. The only one I think could come close is Senator Ted Cruz.  It certainly wouldn't be Jeb and Marco.

IMHO it's very simple.  The candidate who shows passion in supporting the cause of the American people, not the desires of the consultant and donor class, will be the winner.  And right now that person is Donald Trump.  Of course, things can happen and change in politics, but with the staff and resources he has to stay on course, it will be a difficult road for the others, for up to this point they have all been TRUMPED and STUMPED by The Donald's marketing wizardry.  Stay tuned, folks, the show is just starting.

TONIGHT AT 9: OPT OUT FLORIDA COMMON CORE UPDATE

8/20/2015

Picture
School has either opened or will shortly throughout this great land and parents are once again evaluating what is coming up in the education of their children for another year.  Many are perplexed by changing rules and standards and many more are noticing the dread that their children have for their school year.   If it appears that the education process is radically changed and become even more driven by standardized testing it is because that is true.

Welcome once again to another year of the Common Core curriculum, a program developed and implemented by private sector companies where crony-capitalist relationships between educational business and government interests has hijacked the life of your children's academics.  But there is hope out there.

Opt Out groups have been formed all over the country, sharing information and strategies as they try to defeat a nationally centralized curriculum system which has taken most authority away from the classroom.  The program builds a huge data base managed by the Department of Labor and matches it with projected employment needs to determine what kind of skills are needed for the job market.  It is a huge data mining effort where the students come second and the program sponsors seek to control career development on this basis.

While on the surface that might not sound so bad, as the American economy is more and more relegated to service oriented jobs, the future of our children becomes one of filling the low skilled spaces as opposed to meeting their hopes, personal abilities and dreams. It is clearly another Big Brother on steroids program with parents having little input as the educational system works largely under veiled secrecy.  The teachers, however, are in the same boat as the students and are, accordingly, losing their love for the teaching occupation. Theirs becomes a job of standardization and measurement, destroying their creativity and stifling their talents.

Tonight we will talk about this program on North Florida Writer Live.  Cindy Hamilton, a leader in Opt Out Orlando will be my guest and will tell us about what is ongoing here in Florida and what those who are opposed to Common Core can do to help.  Cindy is a concerned parent and program activist who has learned how the system works and how it can be most effectively challenged.  If you have children in public schools the information she will provide will be very beneficial to you in learning what today's education system is doing to your child and what needs to be changed.  The show starts at 9:02 pm and here's the link:

                                                          tobtr.com/s/7859345

One final note: Breitbart reported the latest annual poll of teachers as prepared by Education Net and found that today both the teachers and voters are turning solidly against the Common Core program, desiring a more localized control of the education process.  Part of a general trend we are noticing today as government assumes more control of our lives, it is becoming clear that Op Out is is another strike against overly powerful and conrolling centralized government.  Returning the education process to a position where students, teachers and parents are the driving force in its operation is an effort that should be applauded.  Local school officials need to realize they represent their community, not the federal government.  Open it up and allow creativity to flow in the best interests of the children.
