Certainly tonight's debate is important; determining a future candidate for President of the United States in a time of such critical circumstance is definitely critical, but the Supreme Court lost its conservative conscience and constitutional stalwart in the death of this learned man. With many critical cases on the docket this term, any change in make up of the Court could be monumental in its impact on our way of life in America. And certainly if you are a Conservative, you don't want to see Barack Obama in his final year of office have the ability to change the direction of our legal system any further after the things he has done in so many other facets of our lives.
Word came out this afternoon that Senator Mitch McConnell, the milquetoast Republican Majority Leader, has stated that any selection of a replacement of Scalia would not be determined until the next President is sworn in. If he really means it, it is a very good thing. If he falters like he so often does, well, the legal traditions of our constitutional form of government are in serious peril and after Obama's end running of the Constitution in recent times, his actions prior to departure from office might look like the past was a Sunday school picnic.
So take a few moments to say a prayer for the soul of this good and patriotic man and ask God to also be with his family as they mourn his passing. Then get involved and tell your Senator that no nomination for a replacement on the Supreme Court should be considered until a change of leadership is determined by the upcoming November election. America can't afford any more legal lightweights who put feelings and politics above the importance of constitutional governance. To allow that will result in the end of all that our Framers and their fellow countrymen worked for and for which many suffered and died.
God bless the United States of America and may she ever be free.
