We Christians who have grown up in the Church all know the story of Adam and Eve. It was certainly covered in Sunday school classes and it, of course, is in the story of the Creation of all things earthly by God, ultimately leading to humans created in His image. And despite being given the perfect life in the magnificent Garden of Eden, they quickly fell under the influence of the Evil One who convinced them that God's command not to eat of the special fruit was meaningless. We all know how that turned out and we, mortal sinners, have struggled with good versus evil or God versus the Devil ever since.
The story has been critiqued by archaeologists, anthropologists and theological scholars every since and it has also been challenged by many rank and file Christians for generation after generation. But we who are Bible believers know that we are expected to take God's word as the final say while also knowing that with God anything is possible. So, I found it interesting the other day when I saw an article recently about two research scientists at the University of Basel in Switzerland claiming that they had evidence that the world population over the thousands of years originated from one man and one woman. The study was based upon a DNA analysis and I won't even attempt to explain the detail here. But at the conclusion of this post I will leave a link to the article and perhaps others should read it for themselves. Now, it's only one study and it has received much adverse response since it's release in early 2018 but, like everything else, each of us should read it with an open mind and apply faith to it. It will never provide absolute proof because God wants us to accept things by faith and belief which gives us the ability to discern the true from the false. All I know is that one of the scientists, himself a skeptic, said he fought the findings for a long time before he had to admit they made scientific sense.
I think we should also think about the things reported to relate to real science that so many accept as a fact. Take the issue of climate change, where we accept that problems due to too much cool or warm air is caused by man. At the same time, the basis is not empirical evidence but computer models, models which are based upon man's input. Yet at the same we discount changes in the heat generated by our primary heat source, the sun, and refuse to accept that is the primary cause of the heat level. Turn off the sunlamp in the sky and see what happens quickly. Or what about the issue of biology and gender, where many say gender is a psychological thing and not a physical one despite the clear biological difference of man and woman which stood mankind well for thousands of years.
Ladies and gentlemen, you can't say that science is settled by consensus when if that were the case we'd still be believing in a flat earth. Science is never settled as more and more factual information comes to the surface. And using psychology instead of biology to determine gender reality is taking an abstract social science and trying to use it to replace empirical science which is clear by the very physical make-up of people.
So, discussing the Adam and Eve story, we can find plenty of background information as evidence of the story, but remember the evidence doesn't give firm, scientific evidence. Maybe it will, I don't know. But I do know with God's Word, we must apply our faith which allows us to believe in Him to the equation if we want to find the truth. Having doubts and questions is healthy and God is happy to let us use our minds in that endeavor. But to find real truth in all things, we must turn our lives over to him.
