Dear Heavenly Father, Many of us are troubled these days in America. Some are hungry and homeless, others are suffering sickness with no end in sight, and still others feel hopeless as they watch our society and the beauty of our land being destroyed by opportunists and others who only think of themselves and not others or the consequences of what they do.
Despite all of these issues, it is first and foremost important that we thank you for what you have given us. We Americans are more blessed with a land full of riches and beauty than anyone else in the world and we have also inherited a form of government the likes of which the world had never previously seen. Help us to awaken our knowledge and appreciation of these gifts and endeavor to return our direction to the fulfillment of the promise they hold, for we have been woefully inadequate and selfish in this regard for far too long. And so many of us have forgotten you and we must honestly and sincerely make amends and seek your forgiveness.
Help us to take responsibility for our lives, our resources, and our future which can only be properly addressed by turning to you. Your blessings have been given to us with an understanding that we are to exercise proper dominion over the earth and all living things. We humans are expected to treasure and use our resources wisely and we have been woefully remiss in doing so.
Lord, the only way we can change the way we are is with love in our hearts. We must love all people, even those who would do us harm. This does not mean that we have to accept what is done to us, but we must be willing to forgive those who see the folly of their ways and work to make amends. And by practicing love and forgiveness, we will also begin to live in a way that is best for all mankind and which does not trample on or otherwise defile others. We must put our full trust in you, not money, or property or anything material. If we do this we will enhance our ability to live together in peace while also protecting the land that you gave us to use wisely. And although we know that since man is a sinner, there will always be those on earth who will not commit to loving one another, we also know that if we make that commitment to love through our faith in you we will inherit the Kingdom of God when this life is done.
Lord, we know that all of these things seem simple, but we also know that they are hard to carry out as you would have us do, so please help us open our hearts to the Holy Spirit and use your wisdom to guide and direct our every thought and action. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, who died that we might have the opportunity to live forever. Amen.
On this Friday afternoon, communing with The Father and asking Him for his love and help makes me feel much better. I hope it might help you as well. God bless.
