I am never lonely with my two boys around. Truly, man's best friend.
Hi, I'm James Dick and I write about nature and all of her many components. God gave us a wonderful gift when he gave us dominion over the earth and all things therein and I believe that learning and experiencing the joys and beauty of nature is the best way to understand what He expects of us.  From the beautiful beaches and sea, the topic of my most recent books, to the many special animals that He created, we are responsible for treating all things as he expects.  And now, after a long life in the Army and then private business, I have retired to a rural homestead where I can "see and feel" nature around me in all things, be it the beautiful sea or a dark forest or even an amazing swamp.

Here I am with two of my boys,Val and Sal, two Great Pyrenees half-brothers who serve as our shepherds, guarding all living things that reside here. And you will see, if you look at my "Life Around Us" and "My Book Page" menu items at the top of the page, you will see some of my writing projects as well as animal nurturing projects in action.

I also write a regular almost  daily blog, see menu for link above, about God, nature and all that it includes and yes, even on occasion, politics. I've recently cut way back on the politics, preferring to spend most of my time on things that are cheerful and bright, for life is too short to go around frequently unhappy over things you can do very little about. We can't escape politics totally, however, because politicians are the one who commit us to spending and often not in the best of ways. So, we do need to pay attention and link up with others of like mind in standing for what is right, not just for us, but in the eyes of our God above.

So thanks for visiting my website; look around and enjoy yourself and I hope you see something you like.  Have a blessed day.

NOW AVAILABLE: MY LATEST BOOK, "THE LONG ROAD FORWARD"

From the author of "Summers at Old Nags Head, my second book in the Carolina Coastal series continues on with the life of Josh Eldridge as he continues to mature and develop his acumen both in terms of business and in terms of his active life in Christ. But Josh struggles with the way to do both until finally, with the strong support of his dear wife, Annie, he comes up with the answer for what is expected of him. He also suffers several physical mishaps, one almost killing him in a major accident, and the other being from his health. But he weathers on as the couple raise a family, also not without trials until he gets to the point where he is ready to slow his pace, not so much because he wants to do so, but because he must if he wants to stay alive.  This last step will prepare him for the final phase of his life which will be addressed in the finale of the series coming this winter.

"The Long Road Back," the prior and fist book in the series tracks the life of former Confederate soldier and prisoner of war, the younger Josh, as he finds his way home from the hated Point Lookout, Maryland POW Camp to Currituck County and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is a historical fiction using a mostly historical background with characters and situations which are realistic for the time frame of the book.  As the Great-grandson of a Confederate soldier who also spent nearly a year as a prisoner of war, I wanted to portray the difficulties faced by those men who, after reaffirming their allegiance to the United States, then had to face a slow return to normalcy for many years. The story, however, is not my great-grandfather's story.

Volume one of the "Coastal Carolina" series covers the period 1865-1873 while Volume 2 picks up there and carries through the difficult Great Depression that began in 1873 and continues onward until 1885. Here's the link to all of my books, both on Amazon Prime and Kindle. Just copy the link and paste into your browser and you're on your way.
