Have you ever wondered what Heaven might be like? No matter what we might have considered in our wildest dreams, the above passage tells us that we cannot even imagine the glory and grandeur that comes if we accept the grace of Jesus Christ, turn away from sin and follow Him.
Think about that for a minute. Doesn't that make you want to at least consider where you are and where you are headed? Doesn't it at least give you an inkling of desire to find out for yourself by taking the gift that Jesus has offered us with his life? I don't know about you, but I see enough of the evil in this world, yet at the same time indications of the beauty and majesty of God's creation in things around me to make me want to accept his wonderful gift. Nothing else makes sense in this world. Otherwise, we are just traveling through like a blob headed from one nothingness to another.
Do you want to change your life? Do you need someone much bigger and more powerful to help you through your problems and offer a real future, one that lasts forever? Then why not take that first step and drop by church today. Sunday is a great day to start your new adventure. There is a church for everyone out there, all you need to do is check out the scene. And it might take more than one attempt to find the one you really like and people who make you feel at home. I've been there and done that. But if you make the effort it will work for you and it will offer you open the doors for you to find a peace and tranquility that is so lacking in so many of us.
The idea is to open your heart and give the Holy Spirit the chance to enter into your life. Regular worship, daily prayers and Bible reading are all designed to both open your heart and, once the Spirit enters, to keep it open. For an open heart, one that can both receive and give love is critical to your ability to do what Jesus wants from you. And when you accept a New Life through His grace, you then are on the way to inheriting the Kingdom with Him when this life is said and done.
Remember this also, my friend. Everyone is in many ways just like you. We are all sinners who make mistakes. But by deciding that we want to change, that we want to find that "something" that makes us feel empty inside, we take the first step to opening ourselves to Jesus Christ who died for us. And this opening of the heart is the start of a new journey, a journey that will show us the way to the wonders of real love and caring and the magnificent hope of eternal life.
If you do, and if you stick with it and fight off the many sinful influences that chase each and every one of us, the time will come when you will inherit that wonderful place we refer to as Heaven. We might not know exactly what it entails, but you can be sure it will be greater than anything the human mind can imagine. I'll bet my life on it.
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." (NKJV)
Just imagine that. Hallelujah!
