John Boehner is crying and Old Mitch looks like he's biting his lip and he shows stress and concern. Do you think it's because they are worried about what is going to be done to you and me by Washington? Nope, it's more likely because they are afraid that we might find out what they are going to do to us. Time and time again they have promised to do what they have promised and time and time again they have backtracked, choosing instead to wheel and deal with the likes of Harry Reid and Barack Obama. Well, get ready, folks, for they are about to do it again.
The story broke this morning that a Continuing Resolution ( the document that authorizes continued funding of the government in lieu of the budget that never gets done by the Senate) hit the floor for consideration and that Boehner is likely to bring it up for a vote tomorrow. So much for his promise when he assumed the Speakership that Congress would be given adequate time to read all documents? Once again, no, that is not going to happen.
So what's the deal? Well, the rumor is hot and heavy that the resolution will be in effect for the period closing on December 31 of this year and we don't know what else is in it. Some are saying that it will fund the Export-Import Bank (basically a slush fund to insure that crony capitalists heavy in government supported export-import activities have guarantees backed by we, the taxpayers), an action that many House Republicans oppose and that there will also be something in there related to Obama's shamnesty push. We don't know this positively, but since Congress never reads anything they pass it is at least something to be concerned about.
Approving it for the short period will afford Harry Reid to control the action during the lame duck period following the November elections. A lame duck session will allow the House and Senate to do what the sitting Senators and Representatives want to do, including those that have been defeated in the elections already held in November. The newly electeds won't take office until early January.
If instead they passed a clean resolution with none of the mentioned types of Democratic "goodies" and have it valid until say March 30th of next year, it would have allowed the new Congress to take action and if the Republicans also control the Senate after the election the bottleneck known as Harry Reid would be gone from power as Majority Leader. Then the new Leader could then work to rectify all of the mischief that Reid has accomplished through his recalcitrance and supported by Republican cowardice.
So why are Boehner and McConnell likely to be doing this when it contradicts everything they have said. Well, it's really quite simple. They are part of them, they are not part of us. And until Conservatives really understand this and carry out a peaceful war against these men and remove them from leadership, the Obama machine will continue to roll along.
The irony of this is that it is quite possible that McConnell could lose his reelection since he is not polling very well. Many of us have been saying that he wasn't the right man for Kentucky, but of course the national Republicans like it this way. What will ultimately happen? We'll just have to wait and see.
