Having said that, I am saddened today as I think back on the events of the last week and what impact they are having on our rights here in America. Oh, I know that the closing of a small portion of the government has created some minor turmoil for people, but when you realize that 83% of the federal government is up and running, it is at most an inconvenience, and even those who are furloughed will ultimately get back pay for the days they sat home Trust me, there are millions of Americans who wish they had an employer who would do the same, for there is great suffering by many due to unemployment or underemployment caused by the disastrous policies of the current Administration, a body that continually claims it is "focused like a laser beam on employment" while doing nothing positive in this regard.
But today I am really thinking about one specific aspect of the government closure, one that is not only cruel but also unnecessary, a closure handpicked by the President to try and show us his power and what he can do when he doesnt get his way. Once again Obama has decided the government is one of "I" and not "us". I am talking about the closure of federal parks and land and nowhere is it more noticeable than in Washington, D.C., a city noted for so many sites that are federally-controlled. Shrines and areas like the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II memorial and, yes, the National Mall have been closed to the public by President Obama, an action that never happened in past shutdowns, of which there have been seventeen.
For those of you who don't remember, even President Bill Clinton, in battle with the Republicans during a government closure in the 1990s, met in exhaustive sessions with Congress and left the parks and land open while they negotiated a settlement and eventually returned the Capitol to business as usual. But not our current leader, he just spouts his doublespeak and refuses to negotiate, even though that is the way the Constitution is designed to handle differences, and to maximize his show of force, he punishes American citizens who are just being used as pawns. Paraphrasing the great Ronald Reagan: "Mr Obama, tear down those barriers."
As if this isn't bad enough, yesterday we got the word that Obama has allowed an illegal alien group, Camino Americano, to hold a rally today on the National Mall, complete with stages and sound systems while legal American citizens continue to be banned from enjoying this national treasure. Once again, after sticking his finger in the eye of our wonderful World War II vets, he chooses to add to the outrage by putting lawbreakers who aren't even citizens first. How disgusting, how vile and how evil.
And all of this is really caused by his desire to continue to jam a horrible law down everyone's throat unless you are a special group receiving special treatment. Yes, I'm talking about Obamacare, a law that pits one group against another, requires some to pay what they clearly can't afford so that others pay nothing, makes life and death choices with death panels, and threatens citizens with and IRS that has been recently proven to operate more like the Gestapo than a tax collection agency. The entire operation is the epitome of unfairness, caused by the man who says everything must be fair. Fair for whom and by whose standard, Mr. President? You don't have any standards. And just think, If a President will pick favorites in determining who will be inconvenienced by a government closure, what kind of decisions do you think his minions will make when it comes to your health care? What a horrible predicament America finds herself in today and all because so many didn't bother to study candidates and opted for "Hope and Change" without bothering to find out what the slogan meant.
So America, it's time to stand up and speak out. Don't sit silently by while your country continues to unravel and you sink into Third World economic status. America was not created to be a land of tyranny, it was designed to be the Land of the Free, so get involved, ask God for His guidance, and let's get together to break the chains and open up not only the parks, but also the entire government apparatus to the light of truth. It's not too late but we better get started, for tyranny and despotism is a creeping disease like cancer, and while it hasn't metastasized throughout the body politic yet it is gaining ground. It's time to remove the cancer and replace it with fresh vibrant tissue, the tissue of freedom with honor. Let's get to work.
