Sadly, things are much different today. I don't think Armed Forces Day even gets a notice any longer and events like Memorial Day and Veterans Day are largely only recognized publicly by those who directly served or are their family members. Most Americans look at such days, particularly if they get a work holiday, as a time for shopping or other activities with little if any thought for what they mean. What they mean is sacrifice and honor.
Nothing brings this more to mind than this Saturday past, December 7th: Pearl Harbor Day. Little mention was made of it and even our churches, organizations that used to pride themselves on the relationship of our God to our good country, now have gone off into directions of social justice and a more liberal mindset than the requirement for a Nation of God to base her being on the Good Book and its Word.
I wonder what God thinks about our change of direction and loss of fervor. After all, the Spirit of America served as the Beacon of Hope and the aspiration for freedom for millions the world over and this spirit originated from our loving Father. People looked to the Stars and Stripes for leadership and hope and no land on earth ever gave of itself more for the cause of liberty worldwide than the United States. And we Americans always took great pride in these efforts even though many of us were saddened by the cost to our families of the lives of loved ones lost for the cause.
Today we are relegating ourselves to that of a second rate nation while, at the same time, lowering our standards of living, our views of morality and our abiding love for and faith in an Almighty God. It has come gradually, although the pace has picked up dramatically in recent years, and it has been led by a government that no longer seems to represent the people but, rather, big corporate entities, Wall Street and the international community. Main Street and the millions who live in flyover country are being ignored and being marginalized. We, however, have been partly responsible through our apathy and unwillingness to get involved.
As we are in the middle of the Season of Hope as represented by the birth of Christ, let us renew our hope and dreams for America and use this renewal as a call to action. For there is always hope, and America has been through lackadaisical and even fearful times before. When the bell of independence was ringing over two hundred years ago, an overwhelming majority initially stood in support of the British King and even just before Pearl Harbor large numbers wanted to avoid war at any cost. Today, when government is sticking its fingers into every nook and cranny of the personal lives and actions of her citizens we still have the potential to turn this around. It just takes the return of the Spirit and the energy to stand up in large numbers and say we won't take this anymore. When the sleeping giant emerges, nothing can stop it. A government that loses the support of its people due to malfeasance ultimate crumbles from within itself.
Now is the time. Just say NO to the destruction of the American Experiment. Never give up your freedom and honor for false promises and what is easy for anything that is worth having and keeping takes hard work. Let's get to work for a rebirth of freedom in thought, word and action in the Greatest Nation on Earth. Let's return America to her rightful place in the world and do it for the grace of God.
Get energize, show your pride and determination, and may God bless America.
